Pretty much. Nintendo has been weak for the last two generations say what you will. On the other hand it can't be denyed that when the GC or the N64 did something well they did it very well. But that's quite rare.

there are quite a few nice games on the cube (and the n64 for that matter).
Could it have been the supposed (and often times, probably true) image of being kiddy? Surely blood and guts don't make a good game (or a 'mature' game for that matter, but that's another argument), but was nintendo not appealing to the right crowd?
Had gamers that stuck with nintendo in earlier years grown up and wanted something more? Sure, there were the resident evils, and one of my favorite games from this last generation Killer 7, but was it enough?
I guess I come up with just as many questions as the next guy when I wonder why the cube fell short. Could have been the lack of a real mario title at launch, no online game play, a zelda game that divided fans becuase of presentation, and the already mentioned image problems.
I think Nintendo didn't have a clear idea of what they wanted to do with the system... more "mature" games, like the Resident Evil games, the Metroid games and Eternal Darkness, but the playskool look of the system, and the number of Mario and previous image of being family friendly didn't help.

The Gamecube simply didn't have the amount of software that the PS2 or Xbox had. I mean, as simple as it sounds, the system with the most software will win the game at the end of the line.
That really depends. It might end up being the winner overall, but for people who see quality over quantity the the most software can also be the most crap.

See, but that simply doesn't follow. You can argue first party material, but after that when the amount of titles are measured, the thing with the most software will prevail.Originally Posted by Demonic Weasel

I think you're putting the cart before the horse -- Gamecube having less software was the result, not cause, of its relative lack of success.
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
It's not the best if it's almost entirely crap and another console with less software is almost entirely godly. It all comes down to taste, not quantity. More does not automatically equal better.Originally Posted by AmyDoesn'tDouche

I hated Goldeneye because the aiming pisses me off, and for that same reason I hated Timesplitters 2.

Zelda: the Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Baten Kaitos, Resident Evil Zero, 1 and 4, MGS The Twin Snakes, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Timesplitters 2 and 3, Tales of Symphonia...
N64 was the worst piece of junk Nintendo ever produced, save the Virtual Boy!
Super Monkey Ball = better than any decent N64 game x100.
None of those games ever made me want to buy a Gamecube. Goldeneye was awesome in every respect (except if you're David and don't like the aim system) and was the soul reason why I bought the console. I also hate EA for cashing in on the name of that game. I have never played Super Monkey Ball, however, the monkeys on the front look pretty awesome. Also, Super Mario 64 is overrated tosh.Originally Posted by 108 Stars
