You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
The only way Sega might win at this is if the court were to find that YTMND is making money off of using copyrighted materials (of Sega's). They have so many ads now.
The YTMND retaliatory spam onslaught on the Sega.com boards was really very funny. I hate them for it, but it was a good larf.![]()
The Sega.com boards are in serious need of sanity and Prozac.
I once started posting there out of boredom, and found a mass of people who barely knew what they were talking about.
I think it's been a year since I last posted there, but I don't really plan on checking.
I took some comfort knowing that Nintendo.com forum was a sorry place to frequent, given that most Nintendo fans I've talked to were off in their own little world.
Hearing that the Sega.com forums are a similarly sorry place makes me shed a tear.
I still find most Sega fans to be better and more tolerant.
ALL company forums are going to be full of the kind of people that'd make you ashamed to be a fan. Acting astonished about it is like going to a Dragonforce concert and saying 'wow, they sure like to shred!'
YTMND invaded SEGA's boards? Lame.
Nintendo er er er er SEGA do do do do

I'd actually have to hear and/or like Dragonforce to go to one of their concerts and say "do0d, they fucking shred!".
But I can still be surprised as I have seen a few non-company boards that were just as much of a bottomless chasm of stupidity.
And surprisingly, I'm not referring of GameFAQs boards.
GameSX boards.
Anyone who knows anything is quicky driven off by the fact that the administrator LIKES trolls and hates new people.
The alleged 'knowledgeable' people took almost a month to figure out the jamming paper clips into the AV port of a Wii JUST MIGHT(oh really?) do some damage.
Yeah.
99% of the internet is retarded, just like the rest of social gathing locales.
The simple solution is to not take the Internet seriously. Thing is, what if there are aliens on the other side of the Moon listening in to us? God knows what their opinion of humanity would be if their first contact with us was Goatse.Originally Posted by TheGZeus

That's the problem. The internet is just another form of communication. it's terrible that people are forgetting that there are real people here.
I feel it's almost soley responsible for the spread of incessant sardonic 'humour' (if you can call sarcasm with no point and virtually no basis in fact humour).
The people that fall prey to this way of thinking become virtual nihilists(as in almost total nihilists) when it comes to social interation, except when someone DOES decide to follow codes of decorum and/or be generally serious, they're ostricised and crucified(figuratively, and on the net and off).
People refer to things like "the internet VS real life."
Sad fact: the internet IS real life.
Lies are lies, truth is truth, people are people and that's all.
it's easier to disguise yourself and allow yourself to become emotionally detached, but that doesn't make it a good idea.
Again, real social gathering locales are just about as bad, but I actually think that's more like 80% suck. Keeping in mind that McDonalds and Starbucks count, That's not that bad.
The fact that we need 'ignore' functions is just sad.
The 'it's not real' attitude is responsible for both the average ignored psoters' attitudes and the fact that moderators don't recognise breaches of social conduct.
A place like YTMND is a biker bar. You walk in knowing what you're getting.
This place and other places that have a more specific and (in this case) technical basis are your bookstores, cafes, etc.
When you walk in, ask if ethernet uses CAT-5 cable and the owner tells you "Look it up. Those books over there aren't for ME! GOD..." you're probably going to leave pissed.
I got yelled at(and cursed at) by 'lawrence' for telling him he was behaving in a manner that would get him banned on any other forum. "Yeah, well this isn't any other forum, and I'll do what I like."
understand?
This place is better, but it still suffers from nihilism.
The problem, I think in part, stems from the internet being founded by nerds and geeks. We never had a place where we were in change as adolescents, and were often teased. Teasing often leads to a generally nihilistic/anarchist attitude, and suddenly having power can make you just want to use it because you can. Be it the power to conceal yourself behind a pseudonym(I introduce myself with this and my real name in most social settings) or to warn/ban those whom you find generally dislikable/at random, they're both things to be used, not abused.
A really good example of what you are talking about some something that happened recently over on DP.
Some dude posted about some guy selling 2600 games and charging people to ship them (or some such) the poster was downright rude to this 2600 seller for no apparent reason other than he disliked the "charging for shipping".
When this dude tried to present his case and gain some type of support he didn't really get any, and when things went sour he started calling people "gay" and "biased" and other such things until he came to the "conclusion" that everyone on DP were "friends" with the owner or that 2600 seller and left.
I admit that the 2600 game seller probably shouldn't have said some of the things he said in response to the guy (but they were funny), but the poster just didn't understand that acting like a total asshole doesn't get you anywhere.
They aren't so bad, the people who actually know what they're talking about frequent the XB360 and Wii sections pretty much exclusively. Assuming you like to talk about the newer systems and games, there is still plenty going on there. Talking about classic Sega systems and games on the other hand.... just a bunch of noobs that ebayed a 32x three days ago and want to know if it has Sonic.Originally Posted by Dartagnan1083
Sega-16 is where I go to get the dope on Genesis stuff, nobody else compares.
I just wish there was a comperable board/site for sega 8-bit stuff.
All the best sites are dedicated to developement and collecting hard/software.
That's fine, those sites are cool, too. I just wish there were sites more about the games themselves and playing them, not whether or not register A15 requires a higher value to address blahblahblah. I will care more about that stuff eventually, but I will still care about playing the things.
Is that really a problem? Go and educate the masses then, rather than sniping at them from over hereOriginally Posted by nate
edit: we talk about 'classic' SEGA stuff in this forum. Can you really expect posters in another forum geared towards SEGA 'current events' to have intimate knowledge of twenty-odd year old consoles?

I was only rebutting Dartagnon's comment that nobody knows anything. If you look at the Sega Systems section of the Sega.com boards, noobs is what you'll find. But if you move down the page a bit you get some serious folks, that's all.Originally Posted by Elusive
