Default CD-ROM, the holy cow of the PC industry

I recieved my copy of WoW Burning Crusade today, and to my horror I realize they put the thing on 4 regular fucking CDs. Why, oh why do I still have to put up with this shit? Do developers/publishers honestly believe there are still morons out there who won't invest $20 at most in a DVD reader?

I've been there... that's one of the many reasons why I quit PC gaming. I waited until I could get UT2004 on DVD... thankfully they never made the SE-DVD only.

    Boggles my mind too.

They really should use 2,500 floppies instead. What if people don't have an optical drive of any kind?

Is four discs really that cumbersome? What's the big deal?

I think Everquest is on 10 CD's. UT2004 was six.

OMG! You produce CD's for a living, don't you? I just know it!...

Anyway, I can't wait till the industri stops focusing on those stupid optical disks (HD-DVD my ass!!!) and go "back" to making cartridges again
Bare Knuckle III rules! Also, the music in this game is freakin awesome.

Only stupid computers ever used cartridges.

The Mega PC would like a word with you

Seriously, has anyone before or since stuck a current-gen games machine inside a PC case alongside a regular PC?

edit: oh yeah, Japan had the Teradrive as well

I have no idea why PC games cling so tightly to CDs instead of going to DVDs. I guess they're afraid of missing out on even one sale from that guy who doesn't yet have a DVD-ROM or a DVD-RW drive. Y'know, the guy who probably doesn't meet the requirements for today's games in other aspects of hardware as well.
