Well! I'm Shocked! O_O. J/K . Hey but seriously could you elaborate on why. My guess is that Nintendo has done a shody job software wise.

I'm starting to feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, I love Zelda and Metroid and occasionally a good Mario game, but I feel that Nintendo is giving it's fan base the shaft. IMHO, the only reason to own a Nintendo product is for it's "Tri-force" legacy games and the occasional sleeper hit or epic JRPG (Last Story, Xenoblade, etc.). And don't get me started on HD Windwaker. Nintendo, you gotta be kidding me!

I like options, even though none will be a proper alternative for the original hardware, plus, I'm a curious person, so I like to see how games look like on various pieces of hardware.

My Wii is hooked up to the same 26" LCD TV as the Wii U, but running Component in 480p rather than HDMI in 1080p. I'm just curious to see how Virtual Console games look like in 1080p via HDMI as compared to 480p via Component (all on the same LCD) and 240p via Component on both this TV (which has HORRIBLE deinterlacing and doesn't like to sync to my Genesis without the video being wavy) and my 27" CRT.

One of the reasons people use for the lack luster three months of the Wii U being on shelves is the confusion many consumers have with the system being named quite similar to the original Wii. I don't believe we saw the same results with the Xbox/360, NES/SNES, PS2/PS3, etc.., It's much deeper than that. The software, although anemic in release, is good and should be able to push units. Retailers either don't give a damn about the system or think it is still a Wii. Software for both systems seem to be intermingling with each other and there doesn't seem to be much of an effort put forth to differentiate the old system from the new system. Of course not having another quality game being released until March doesn't help either and one would think Nintendo would have learned from the 3DS release. People are patient but with that comes limits.

Also, like the 3DS, it's more expensive than people are comfortable with.

You're paying premium launch prices for last gen performance.

The wii was a runaway success in sales, even if it was woefully under powered compared to the ps3 and 360... but included with that was the fact that it was also quite cheap, so cheap in fact that MS and Sony had to drop the prices of their low end models to get it within range of the wii's normal price.

A software drought has been their standard business since the Virtual Boy came out. They also just spent half a decade conditioning the mainstream customer into buying add-ons and other attachments for the Wii.

The mainstream Nintendo consumer: "Wii U? A $350 upgrade to the Wii?! What? A new console?! I just bought the Wii a few years ago!"

The average gamer: "Wii U? A $350 360/PS3-like console with no games, bad online account management that doesn't upscale Wii games very well? With Xbox, PS4 and Steambox coming this year? No thanks. Maybe... at $199... as an after thought."

I still don't see the point of buying one.

It's an expensive box that plays Nintendo exclusives... which are the same as the old exclusives... and aren't even available for it yet.

I've seen this 1st hand, a friend of my wife just got a black original Wii. And my wife told her that we just got a Wii U. And she said "WHY? It doesn't come with any games and this Wii we JUST got (being the original Wii she's talking about) came with a bunch of games and it was only $130.."

So obviously the "average" consumer doesn't get it. I'm sure most kids get it, but when they ask their parents for it. The parents go look at it and go, "Why is it so expensive?! It just has that extra controller screen"

I wonder how many kids ASKED for a Wii U and ended up with a Wii last christmas!? hahahaha...

I got my Wii U Deluxe on Craigslist for $260 (Regular $350 plus tax at stores) It was one of the many people who bought 2 or 3 Wii U's to try and sell them for high dollar right before christmas. So they ended up having some left over AFTER Christmas.. So I took advantage of that. Cause now they couldn't get rid of it. HA!

Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have one.... yet.

I don't know how true this is, but IGN posted that this is how the Wii U stacks up compared to other consoles as of WEEK 14 from each console launch date.

IMO, the Wii was a fluke for Nintendo - The right product at the right time. The VAST majority of people that bought a Wii weren't really into video games to begin with, so I'd think it really silly for Nintendo to expect a double-dip sale from the same pool of consumers. The tablet controller certainly feels like an attempt to endear itself to the zeitgiest, but it looks like mobile gaming swooped in and stole the consumers that Nintendo was counting on. I do think that the next Sony and Microsoft systems have the potential to stop Nintendo dead in it's tracks with their next systems, especially since 3rd party support for the WiiU doesn't appear to be much stronger than it was with the Wii, and it looks like the WiiU will be getting the gimped versions of whatever 3rd party games that it does get. IMO, Sony and Microsoft have to really drop the ball to not get the upper hand in the coming gen.

Now, that being said, I still want to get a WiiU later this year. I still enjoy Nintendo's first party material (as well as the 3rd party exclusive gems that they seem to get from time to time)....and it helps that my oldest daughter's face lights up whenever she sees anything with Mario in it. I honestly dig Nintendo, but I'd be shocked if the WiiU sold half as well as the Wii sold.

I currently own A wii U. I doubt I will have the money once again for the next big two consoles. Although I started with a Wii last generation before I got the big next two. So I find this rather fitting. Although I think I've finally learned my lesson and going to just wait for the price drops anyway and try ignore those around me telling me how I should get the next greatest system. Anyway to get back on topic, I have so far two wii U games, Batman, and tekkan. That's pretty much it for now. I was really looking forward to rayman legends, such a shame it's been pushed back, but I'll live.

Yeah they can't expect "Wii" sales status for sure... But when you do get one, you'll enjoy it for sure! Can't wait for Mario Kart on this thing! And there is talk of 3DS game support in the future, which wouldn't work for all games, but there are a handful that I'd like to see on the big screen for sure.

Yeah I was looking forward to Rayman as well, but HEY we get a free online challenge mode demo soon!! Free is Free!! I got Batman, Nintendo Land, Mario, Call of Duty, Trine 2, The Cave.

Just beat Mario, kinda short and easy but a lot of fun. And now I got to go back and find the hidden levels in each world and get all the Star Coins... And now they are releasing Super Luigi U DLC for the mario game which changes all the levels. So that'll keep me busy!

My kids and I play Nintendoland often, it's crazy fun.

I chill on the couch and play Call of Duty on the Gamepad Screen while the wife watches TV. That was the selling point for me!

Trine 2 is fun, but more fun with 3 players.

The Cave kinda sucks, wishing they had a demo before I bought it.
