Although I think the seller is NUTS... this is what I'm talking about:

In the past, I've seen his auctions and I have scratched my head at almost all of them.

Back to Daytona for a sec.. I have the Japanese Circuit Edition and the audio is still changed. Like the US version, it has weird remixed versions of the original tracks that pretty much suck, plus a bunch of other crappy music. To be honest I can't tell the difference between the Japanese version and the US version. Neither of them handle like the original Saturn Daytona.

    Thanks!!,

His prices. That's why I think he's nuts. However, what Saturn games I want left are rather pricey, so I may have to buy the farm (spend a lot) on the last few games I want.

But I should write a guide on Saturn collecting.

For that it's a decent deal, but some of his other game prices are NUTS.

I just checked the Jap Circuit Edition of Daytona and the original arcade music is on there, but the arcade music doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the original Saturn version, which was actually CD quality. The arcade sounded... weird. I'm not sure if you can race to these tracks or not... I just popped the CD into my computer to take a listen. Also this game features a LAN mode for two players.

I heard that the Netlink edition is the same as the Japanese version, but it's so rare, and the few people who have a copy aren't talking.

Unlike everything on my Sega Saturn wantlist, I don't think I'll even attempt to locate a copy of Daytona USA CCE Netlink edition. I looked to Google for pics -- none. I asked around, none either. I made a WTB post in a Newsgroup almost two years ago, no dice either.

I prefer the original Daytona, despite the massive pop-up problems and the 20fps frame rate. It was programmed by the original arcade team (AM2) and the Circuit Edition was just programmed by some other random people who are not as cool as AM2. The original version will kind of work with the "3D" control pad. But remember that the pad came out waaaaaaaaay after that game did, so the game thinks it's the Saturn steering wheel if I recall correctly.

It is about 20fps, maybe like Virtua Racing 32X.

For fun I JUST NOW played the original Daytona with the "3D" analog pad. First off I just can't get over how 3D this controller is. It's like living in a new, third dimension or something. It's just so goddamn 3D, and you don't even need funky glasses! Anyway it is a bit sensitive, and you need to hold DOWN on the digital pad for gas and UP for brake. Fun! I placed 34th on Three Seven Speedway when I usually place 1th with a d-pad '2D' controller.

The 'wierd' music in CE is the Daytona USA arcade machine's music. It's sampled, like the music in SEGA AGES vol1. The Daytona USA Saturn music is what you get when the developers had all the space of a Redbook Audio CD to play with, and not chiptunes. So, on Circuit Edition you have the original Daytona USA chiptune & voice samples music, and the Jun Senoue/Richard Jacques (hooray!) remixed soundtrack on the disc. The funny thing is, Race to the Bass is on Championship Circuit Edition, but was removed in Circuit Edition. Odd.

If you want to select the soundtracks go to the Options menu, it lets you bind music to the race tracks Look for [title] (remix) for the CCE sounds and [title] (original) for the original sounds - the default sounds for the courses are coloured yellow, I think.

The Saturn launch Daytona USA is excellent, for a game developed in eight months. The music and handling is lifted or upgraded from the arcade - the only thing missing is the sily 60fps graphics and the 2-player. It's not much of a loss, really.

CCE was developed by the same team that ported Sega Rally flawlessly to the Saturn. Not sure about CE.

The first part of your first paragraph is exactly what I said. The arcade has a weird sound to it. But it is the best music in that game. I already had that music binded to the appropriate tracks and saved that way, apparently. There is some loser by the name of Eric Martin on the disc who feels the need to sing, which is unfortunate for game players everywhere. There is a lot of butt-rock music in the game. Suckage.
