Yeah, I don't get why people rag on that game so much now. It's too linear and too easy, but that doesn't make it horrible. Some of the levels are pretty neat; I like the one with the volcano.

What's better about it? I just picked that version up because it was cheaper.

It has a secret character they took out of the US version. I think that's the only difference.

I prob get it anyway, I'm a stickler for cheap games.

For whatever reason my current last gen PS1 and PS2's S-Video is about equal to Saturn S-Video, so that sort of negates my reasoning back in 1998.

Secondly, yes the Saturn game is a sloppy port with dithering instead of transparency and added load times for no reason, oh and slow down. None of these are game breaking however, and the addition of Maria and Richter shouldn't be discounted. Bottom line, if SOTN is really that great of a game then the Saturn version certainly isn't bad for not being up to par with other Saturn 2D offerings.
SOTN is a game I've wanted for some time now, so I'm getting on Saturn...and PS1. Truth be told, that's what I like to do with every game I buy; hunt down and collect each available port, good or bad. I love comparing them.

If you're talking about the packaging, I 100% agree with you.

I'm pretty sure that was Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter.

So I've heard. But I thought it wise to mention it to jackal in the event that he is not too concerned about picking up the definitive version.

Agreed. The level design isn't stellar but the phenomenal graphics are something to appreciate.

Yes, I've heard that the animation is supposedly to be alot better in the Japanese version.

Coincidentally I just had that shot of whisky! Down with EA!

That game doesn't have a US Saturn version, and the extra character for Japan wasn't a secret.

I imagine the vocal criticism is just backlash from the game being praised for so long.
I often saw it in people's top 10 lists and recommendations. Then when I eventually purchased it I was dismayed by how boring and sluggish it is.

Well that's not really my experience. For the longest time, the game was hardly talked about at all.

There's also a Wii port of the first Klonoa game as well (just in case anyone is interested), its a decent port from what I've played of it.

I recognize that Astal has less then stellar level design, but man that game had pretty graphics...and an AMAZING soundtrack (other then atrocious J-pop style opening track...UGH).

As for Castlevania: SotN, its frustrating concerning the Saturn port. It could have been so much better if Konami had bothered to take a little more time (and I don't understand why they didn't...they already went through the process to add Maria and the extra castle sections). Still, I'm generally ok with playing the Saturn port.

I'm hoping the rumors are true and Capcom announces a port of the Dungeons & Dragons beat-em-up games to HD systems. I have the Saturn port and spent a lot of time with both games. It'd be great to have those games in English. Good times back in the day.

Sorry I forgot it was Japanese only. Norimaro wasn't secret in the Japanes version (I'm refering to the Arcade version here), true, but he was planned to be a secret character in the US release due to the fact they translated most of his text. Unknown why he got ultimately canned though.

I love Darkstalkers III. To me the missing animation is barely noticeable and they did a good job with it. I dont need the previous DS games because III has all the options I need.
