Could people get their facts straight before spewing out this garbage? It is NOT THE CHIPSET THAT AFFECTS GENESIS AUDIO QUALITY! This is another situation like the VA7 Genesis Model 1 and the VA0 to VA1.8 Genesis Model 2: audio circuits that are inadequate for the job. And in fact, the sound hardware in clone GOACs is entirely taken off Sega GOACs like the 315-5960; you could wire up a circuit designed for the GOAC YM3438 without any modifications on a clone GOAC such as the TCT-6801, TCT-6705, TCT6035, etc.
When it comes to NES games, on the other hand, that's an error in the reverse-engineered 2A03 CPU found on the NOAC. Many NOACs seem based off old UMC-made clones of the 2A03 which have the 50% and 75% duty cycles reversed (this is seen in the RetroN3) while other NOACs get this right, but have minor tonality differences and completely screwed-up DPCM (RetroN1 and RetroN2).
I ask of all of you to look up the facts rather than just throwing out false information.
First of all, I never said anything was a fact and I'm not one to try to throw out false information or throw garbage on your lawn. I just made a statement which you knew more knowledge of. My fault. I don't know it all. But thanks for dropping those facts. Now, here IS A FACT, those AT and Retrons "system on a chip" shits sound bad compared to an actual genesis model 1 va2 for example. Find me an example that proves me wrong. If it's audio filters, bad circuits, if it's lazy system on chip design, I don't give a fuck, it's bad. It dulls the experience when a md song plays at reduced speed and out of pitch or out of time. It's A FACT. At the end of the day, the output of product matters. If your so smart Ace, then you design the system on a chip for Retron or tell them how to do it properly at least so the md has near perfect sound. Good luck.
"If you're so smart, you do it" is not any kind of argument.
"Two and two continue to make four, in spite of the whine of the amateur for three, or the cry of the critic for five." - James McNeill Whistler
As much as I do agree with what you're saying, that's a bad way of going about looking at it. You're also comparing apples to oranges here; the chipsets like those used on the RetroN3 are TRUE GOACs while those in the AtGames clones are just Titan ARM chips running software emulation that is absolute garbage. The AtGames example is just shit software emulation; the RetroN3 example is bad audio circuitry.
Oh, WITH PLEASURE! I've had a universal Genesis audio amp in the works for the past year, that's all a GOAC needs to sound good. GOACs themselves don't need any tweaks, just ignore the gimped ones and go for the SM801-A1. Install the amp I made (and will release shortly), you're good.
What I will do is design an NOAC from scratch. I have a Terasic DE0 dev board based on the Cyclone III FPGA that I will use to design an NOAC prototype then make it into an actual NOAC and sell it.
Until then, here's an idea: bulk purchasing Geniclones then reselling them with all the possible fixes for audio, video, compatibility and use of original Sega accessories.
Ok.
Awesome, I hope you sell a lot of Retrons with your amps, they should hire you to make them sound right off the shelves but at least you will re sell them with correct audio.Oh, WITH PLEASURE! Will retron 6 (I think even this retron 5 should but) play neo geo games too ? Doesn't neo use the z80 chip too ?
The problem is they will only do things that are easy and that they see as making them money. MD/genesis and the Mastersystem have huge followings in some areas, the NES/Snes obviously does as well, and of course the GBA.
The other systems never really took off to that level. If anything, I'd expect PC engine/turbo grafx support if anything else, because it was pretty popular in Japan.
But other than that, the next systems to be cloned (stand alone or in something like this) will likley be one of the other Nintendo systems or the PSX if they can ever get away with it.
Thanks for the answers guys. Last call, so neo geo has both the same processors as genesis 68000 and z80, wow crazy. Yeah, I guess tg16 games would be over neo geo games to play too both it's easier and the slot would be smaller. I could see a n64 slot for retron 6, true.
It is going to be very interesting to hear Ace´s final verdict on this one.

I'd like to see this thing get released eventually. haha
It's kind of a shame you can't make your own game codes, I hope they change that in the future.
