The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

Initial impressions looking at this video:
-I don't know if it's due to bad recording, but the Super NES audio sounds really weird
-Not liking the Genesis audio at all. Fairly accurate, yes, but maybe due to the aforementioned potentially bad recording, it sounds very awkward and has virtually no bass in it whatsoever (it seems to lack a low-pass filter as well, and I'll be the first to say I absolutely CANNOT STAND unfiltered OPN2 FM Synthesis, it hurts my ears)
-I like that you can back up save files and rewrite them to the cartridge, that's a nice feature
-Video looks very nice, though color saturation seems very high in NES games
As of right now, this is looking all right. Still waiting for Hyperkin to release the damn thing so I can examine and test it from A to Z.
Sonic 2 sounded weird, but recording issues and audio options may take care of that. I was worried when I saw the price had gone up but, for those who didn't sit thru the video, they are looking at $129-139, which doesn't bother me.
This is looking pretty good to me, and I hope it lives up to our expectations. I'm hopeful.

Are they going to release the thing already? Also, I wonder if it will do 240p.
They said it was on the boat. Should be soonish. When is E3?

i hope the retron5 play bootleg or multicart games
Chances are it won't. It reads cartridge headers and references a database to determine whether it's a game or not. It probably only includes original licensed games.
Plus it dumps the game into a ROM image then plays the ROM in its emulator, so if you're game has some funky copyright protection it won't play correctly. I don't know what emulator theirs is based on, but you can about bet that it's not going to play Watermelon or Super Fighter Team games (among others) because of this, and won't play multi-game carts due to their bankswitching mechanics.
