I wouldn't bother, ebay has taken a serious turn for the worse. Not sure if they are per-empting this year's economic problems or now. I just pulled all of my "good till canceled" listings because the jacked up the prices and none of their reps were able to warn me or help.

Oh, buying, the only way is to get a paypal account and link it to a credit card at least.

You could make another PayPal account, disconnect your CC from your old account, then add it to your new account. Then just used your new account and discard/close your old account.

Seriously though, I don't see the problem with linking your bank to your PayPal account. It's not like they're going to steal money, and even if they do you can talk to your bank to get it back and say it was unauthorized. Or you could open a new bank account with nothing in it and link your PP account to that.

I have seen so, so, SO many horror stories about paypal. They'll freeze your account and all of the money in it without telling you why, and when you try to contact them to fix it they'll give you the runaround. I remember a site collecting donations to send to Red Cross after the big earthquake in Haiti, and they had their account frozen for "suspicious activity" (i. e. receiving a lot of money). They did not get their money back in a timely manner.

Comic book writer Mark Evanier had a very bad experience with them: http://www.newsfromme.com/2005/07/28/no-longer-on-hold/

There's a whole website devoted to the many complaints people have that are poorly addressed to the company: http://www.paypalsucks.com/ - the web design is that of a lunatic but there are real items of concern there.

I say that Paypal is okay for buying things but if you can avoid it at ALL, don't keep any money in there. eBay isn't as good an experience as it used to be either, frankly. I joined it in 1998, and back then you got people's actual emails and in every transaction you interacted with a real person. What's more, you could send people money orders, my preferred method of payment. Now this is forbidden on eBay so it can make as much money as possible off of Paypal fees (as eBay owns PayPal). When you're a seller, things are far worse: I sold something recently and didn't get my money for nearly a month due to some policy of theirs. They now cut you off at a certain level of money and sales each month for reasons I can't fathom, and you can't even leave negative feedback on buyers anymore, no matter what they do.

Yeah, I have Paypal linked to a bank account that never has much money in it mainly because I use paypal to ship using its multi-order shipping option sometimes and always use it for things I have sold on ebay to ship. It is cheaper than going straight through the USPS web page for some reason.

I saw too many class action law suits about Paypal making money disappear in the early days to give them access to my lunch money.

I've had my fair share of PayPal problems as well.
If it isn't their ''we are sorry but most non US addresses cannot be confirmed at this time" then it's "we cannot process your payment at this time- try using another browser or clear all your cookies" wtf

A couple years ago the problem was "the paypal site is currently experiencing technical difficulties with our credit card processor. We are working to solve this problem as quickly as possible. Please return to the PayPal website to complete your transaction"
That lasted for over three months! So my hands were basically tied with any eBay purchases that I wanted to make. Most ebay sellers don't accept any other form of payment.

Finally a PayPal rep explained that the real issue was an unpaid overdue amount regarding my PayPal account of 23 cents. lol . But of course I had no way of knowing that or why that was the case in the first place. My account is strictly a buyers account.
The problem was finally cleared up after an eternity of back and forth emailing (usually having to wait almost a week between each response), but it left the lasting impression with me that PP really doesn't give a flying fuck when it comes to helping the user out in those type of circumstances.

I can attest that what you've posted is absolutely true and has happened to a few friends of mine. Paypal has frozen people's accounts and unfortunately it can take an extremely long time to release those funds. This has happened to countless businesses. In one case that I am personally aware of, there were tens of thousands of dollars that were accumulating over a couple of months. And because Paypal froze the account, the business could not transfer the money to their personal account until the issue was resolved.

These sorts of stories are why I am a tad bit leary about Paypal.

Paypal can be a blessing but it can also be a curse. If you are operating an online business, you most certainly can accept paypal payments. but you must make sure that you are transferring the money to your trust or business account frequently. Furthermore, there are other options you can take advantage of, for example merchant service providers such as Psigate or having a client make a email bank transfer, in order to take online payments as well. In the end, you can use Paypal. Just make sure not to rely on it exclusively.

You can certainly do this. Your limit will be reset.

The limit's kind of silly imo.

Too lazy to read up on the thread to see where things have gone but, Paypal is pretty awesome all things considered.

I've only ever made/had 1 e-bay account way back in 2001 so i don't know how it is these days, but i heard once that now e-bay FORCES new members to set-up an account with paypal. No option.

If so? Thats pretty awesome. Because whether you're buying or selling, paypal works so well with the E-bay system and is just an excellent form of E-Payment in general.
