What interview? The only thing I could find was this.

According to the Sonic City website, Sonic World is a test level for what eventually became Sonic Adventure.[citation needed]

Tech Demo Game: Sonic World is basically an engine test for what was supposed to become Sonic Adventure, before Sonic Team decided to scrap it and modify the engine they used for NiGHTS Into Dreams.

Just a test to how a Sonic game would be in a 3D world. Nothing says that they used the same code for Sonic Adventure unless I am missing something here.

Bingo. That, and the model formats are the same.

Following Burning rangers, Sonic Team started work on a 3D saturn sonic game. Unfortunatly, once it became clear that the saturn wasn't sega's future, their work instead went towards the successor. What is included in Sonic Jam is an extremely early version of what would eventually become Sonic Adventure. Sonic Team's tools to create that game would also eventually become the Dreamcast's SDK.

According to an interview with Takashi Izuka the Sonic World environment featured in Sonic Jam was a prototype level for Sonic Adventure and that the game was at one point going to be made for the Sega Saturn, but said that "due to technical issues and the timing of the upcoming Dreamcast project, we had to end it and instead incorporated it into the Saturn's Sonic Jam. We then moved development for Sonic Adventure on to the Dreamcast".
Also, again, the model formats are identical. And Sonic Jam's Sonic model is used in portions of Sonic Adventure, during the Sky Chase parts, for example.

Also there are a few object models from Sonic Jam found in Sonic Adventure's data such as the Springs and what not.

They should of released Sonic Xtreme when the Saturn launched or soon after or when Nights into Dreams came out (remember Sonic in XMas version?), instead Mario64 and N64 got the mascot 3d platformer crown.
Sonic Retard is right, Xtreme was handled entirely by Sega Technical Institute & started development in 1993 on the 32X prototype "Mars". By 1994, Sonic Team was ready to take a much needed break from the series. They were focused on other projects.

They had ZERO involvement in Xtreme.

Other than fucking it up by throwing a hissy fit when they originally decided to use the NiGHTS engine.

I have heard rumors that Sonic Team did start work on a 2D Sonic game for the Saturn soon after completing Sonic and Knuckles, though they soon abandoned it for NiGHTS into Dreams. Though I don't know how true that is.

After Sonic & Knuckles, the members of STI that didn't return to japan with Sonic Team began making Ristar. Meanwhile, a non-sonic team group began work on Sonic Crackers, which would eventually become Knuckles Chaotix, and Chris Senn's group began Sonic Mars, which eventually became Sonic X-treme (and later got cancelled). I don't think Sonic Team ever began work on another Sonic game until they began work on Sonic Jam's world. They pretty much immediately dove into NiGHTS, because by that point the Saturn was released in Japan and they needed Sonic Team to work on a major project for the system. Naka had wanted to do NiGHTS since Sonic 2 but felt the hardware wasn't there.

There is also Saturn Sonic, which never got far, but that wasn't made by Sonic team either.

EDIT: I should note, however, that the Sonic Mars design document mentions "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" but, given that it was put together by an American team, I doubt they'd be privy to knowledge that Sonic Team was actually working on another Sonic game. It's listed under competing projects by Sega.

I never said he was wrong. Please read what I type guys. I never said Sonic Team made Sonic Xtreme, I never said AM2 did Shenmue, and a question mark isn't me making statement, it's asking a question. I just thought a part of Sonic Xtreme was thrown on Sonic Jam just to make fans happy. I never knew another real 3d sonic game was in development besides Sonic Xtreme on Saturn or 32 x. Which are prequels to Sonic Adventure on DC, yes ? I just thought Sonic Xtreme (and the 3d sonic design) since it wasn't finished and they argued about Nights engine and they decided to put some Saturn games they were developing for later on DC, they just threw a part of Sonic Xtreme or it's designs as Sonic Jam 3d world part. But thanks for the further information like this.

Me and Mr Sega discussed this last year about certain Saturn games never released on another forum, but like I said imo the Sonic Jam 3D World (mainly "old Sonic" character design itself) looks like the Sonic in Nights XMas and Sonic Xtreme clips I saw on youtube, so I thought they just threw part of it in Sonic Jam to give the fans something. Again, thanks for additional info Sonic Retard and others.

    Edit :

Again, Sega should have had a real 3D Sonic platform game ready at or just after Saturn launch (or during it's existence). It seems there was different people or subgroups doing it and then arguments about Nights engine and it all went to hell for a Saturn 3D Sonic game besides Sonic Jam part and Sonic R, but not a true full Sonic 3D platform game. Which is a shame. At least Sonic Adventure on DC came out and fans got to experience what N64 fans did with Mario64 years earlier. (June 23, 1996

Considering that Yuji Naka personally DESPISED Bernie Stolar with every fiber of his being & the fact that Sonic Team hated the concept of Xtreme, plus the fact that STI had another much better engine "Sonic Pool" that could have & SHOULD have used for Xtreme, I don't blame ST for being stingy regarding the use of the Nights engine.

Sonic Pool, as you call it, is actually Saturn Sonic, and came after Xtreme's cancelation. Stolar joined Sega AFTER Naka had already demanded the NiGHTS engine be pulled. Sonic Team didn't hate Xtreme, they just thought it was a folly that wouldn't be feasible. They were pretty much right.

The reason Naka demanded his engine be pulled is simple ego. It was his baby, he didn't share it with anybody else. That really hurt Sega.

Naka was an idiot to keep the NiGHTS engine for himself. He should have been thinking about what was best for the company, but instead he was holed up in his office jerking off and playing NiGHTS.

Why is that, imo the Sonic Xtreme clips I saw looked really cool or do you mean something else ?

I can understand that, but Sonic Pool/Saturn Sonic/Sonic Team asked him for engine right (?), wasn't he and Nights people apart of Sonic Team too ??? I didn't realize Xtreme was canceled before all that.

I saw the Xtreme clips. I played 3D World in Sonic Jam. But are clips or screenshots of this "later Sonic Team 3D Sonic game for Saturn" available ?

Why should he let others leach it ? Wasn't his fault the company couldn't even figure out a good engine for Sonic all that time.
