    Default Rockman Games on Saturn

Okay, I'm currently looking at getting the Rockman/Megaman games on Saturn, but I have no idea what's what, how much each are worth, and if they're good or not. I want the Japanese releases.

    Any help please?

these are the only rockman games made for the saturn. all are quite affordable between the $40-$60 range whenever a non buy it now auction on turns up.

    rockman x3
    rockman x4
    rockman 8
    super adventure rockman

x3, x4 and 8 all play like your standard megaman game and are pretty good, you really can't go wrong with picking up all 3. x3 is a slightly enhanced version of the snes game but with remixed music and added anime cutscenes throughout the game, I personally like the snes soundtrack better but it controls awesome with the saturn controller. rm 8 for the saturn has a few extras that the ps version does not have and has slightly better graphics, woodman and cutman make a appearance as extra bosses in a couple levels and tenguman's stage has completely different music from the ps version. there is also a bonus option on the title screen to view artwork and the anime cutscenes.

super adventure rockman is a fmv game with a few boss fights that play like a light gun shooter minus the light gun, that's about the only way I can think of to describe the boss fights in the game. the game itself is okay and entertaining for a play through but it all depends on if you like fmv games or not. the boss fights are rather fun to play.

also there are 2 versions of rockman x4, there is the standard version that goes between $40-$60 on ebay and there is the limited edition that comes with a ultimate armor model kit that sells for well over $100 a lot of times near $200 depending on if it's complete with the outer cardboard box. here is a picture of the ultimate armor model kit from the limited edition of x4:

The only two RockMan games I played on the Saturn were RockMan X3 and RockMan X4. I'm not particularly fond of RockMan X3 because of the pillarboxed image caused by the Saturn having a minimum horizontal resolution of 320 pixels, which is more than RockMan X3's native resolution from the Super NES (I forget what it is). What I particularly hate, though, is the new music Capcom added in to both this version and the PlayStation version. Was there any reason not to sample the Super NES version's music and throw it onto the disc? I had to do that myself because I don't like the remixed music (RockMan X3's music is just Redbook audio, VERY easily editable).

RockMan X4, though, is a whole other story. It's the only version of the game I will play nowadays since, unlike the PlayStation and PC versions, the music actually loops properly because the music is not streamed straight off the disc using XA audio or whatever format the PC version uses and sounds better as it has more clarity than the PlayStation version's music. I find it also plays better with a Saturn controller than it does with a PlayStation controller. Graphically, I did notice some transparencies are replaced with dithered graphics, so those won't look very good if you use S-Video or better. Regardless, I think this is the best version of RockMan X4 and what I personally think is the best game in the X series.

Yeah but it does have some special effects that aren't in the PS version, like the wavy effect on the flame stage.

Why would you want to listen to SNES music on a CD console? The SNES version of MMX3 has the worst soundtrack of any Mega Man game along with GB MM2. This is coming from a longtime fan. The instrument choices are so awful, grating, and grinding and every track uses the same ones. The arranged OST sounds so much smoother and better. Once I get X3 on the Saturn, I'll probably never use my SNES copy again.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

There's some bad pressings of Super Adventure Rockman for the Saturn, I had one of them. My friend instead picked me up the PS1 version and I sent him the Saturn one I had. I cannot remember which model pressings are the bad ones though.

Okay, that I didn't see. I'll have to play the game again and have a look.

I consider MegaMan X2 as having the worst music of the Super NES MegaMan X games. To me, it just sounds... boring and lifeless. I prefer the harsh sound the Super NES version of MegaMan X3 has to the remixes in the Saturn and PlayStation versions of the game and to the MegaMan X2 soundtrack. What I will say is that, although I find the song COMPLETELY unfitting for the character, I prefer the sound of Zero's theme in the PlayStation and Saturn version than in the Super NES version (the sound pitch is what kills it for me, mainly).

    To each their own.

Yeah, X2's music suffers from the same problem of bad instruments. A lot of the OST is bland, but Wire Sponge and Overdrive Ostrich are standouts. I think X5 has probably the best soundtrack of the X series. How do you feel about the music in Maverick Hunter X?

Don't like it. I'll take the reverb-heavy Super NES original soundtrack over that any day (Central Highway... hell yeah!).

    Thanks guys.

@ HiddenDarkness: Yeah, I like FMV games, so I def like the sound of Super Adventure. I'll think I'll stick to the standard release of X4, tho.

@Bloodreign: I don't like the sound of that. Guess I've got no choice but just buying the game and finding out.

Again, thank you everyone. It's most appreciated.

For Jackal, info on the bad print serial number here. The one you don't want is the Recall Edition (named as such due to a bad disc), stamped T-1225G. Copies stamped T-1241G should be fine, if you buy, ask which pressing the seller has.

Agreed. That is a real deal breaker for me.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.
