I don't think it was actually possible to run the CDX to play games on just batteries. Only the CD player features would work using batteries.

$150 is fair, but a smidge high, if it's got all the original bits, just make sure it can play both Genesis and Sega CD games or negotiate accordingly.

The design of the CDX was that it was supposed to be like a portable CD player, I was alluding to the fact that even that feature is pretty useless.

I'm not so lucky, I've never own a CDX or got around to actually playing one.

So you've never played or owned a CDX, but you're still claiming that it's useless as a portable CD player and that this is a "fact"? What?

I actually own a CDX and have used it as a portable CD player. Obviously you can't compare it to any kind of modern player, and anything without anti-shock (which was rare to nonexistent at the time) is going to have issues with being truly portable in a practical sense, but it does what it's supposed to do. I listened to it for a few hours the last time the power went out and it didn't die on me, so I can at least say that for the battery consumption.

I was saying that If the battery life is poor, than isn't the feature useless?

From your experience it would depend on the model lot. CDX itself was unique, it just didn't stay on the market for long. I wished I got to play one, and it sucks SEGA didn't manufacture them long enough for me to be able to try one or the portable CD feature.

I also heard 32X runs really shitty and can't fit that well on CDX, is this true?

There is no problem with the 32X working on a CDX. That combination looks odd, yeah, but there's no problem with the functionality.
The CDX's lid is partially blocked by the 32X, so you have to be a little careful when changing discs. But it's no big deal. You get used to it pretty quickly.

FYI, the PBC also works fine and fits on a CDX. So if you wanted to play your SMS games that way, you'd be good to go.

I had heard from an Amazon review that 32X didn't fit properly in the CDX's slot. But it sounds like that's certainly not the case. The PBC is quite rare and its cool that it still works on a CDX, I'd imagine it works fine on a Genesis Model 2 as well.

I wish CDX wasn't so expensive, I'd invest in one today if it was at least $100.

The original PBC does work on a Genny Model 2 but you'd have to either remove or mod the case for it to fit.
Of course you wouldn't have any issues on a Genesis 2 with the differently shaped Master System Converter II.

I've also seen people claim that it makes the CDX physically unstable and you need extra support for the 32X to keep the whole thing from toppling over. Total bullshit. There's quite a bit of weird misinformation out there regarding the CDX, but the thing is heavy duty and pretty fucking sturdy, so unless you like to sit your consoles on a bed of bowling balls or some shit, it ain't goin' nowhere.

I had my 32X in my CDX for a couple of years and it took it like a champ.

I remember seeing these JVC things in bargain bins and they were very cheap. I don't get their allure and with Model 2 sound I don't get the point. Finally a model 2 Genesis and Sega Cd can be had for far less so again I don't get it.

In good condition + original JVC controllers = $120-150
