nintendo skips E3 this year

Nintendo needs to start money hatting for exclusives. The problem is that they can't afford it. They sell each Wii U at a loss which is earned back after one game sale. That's risky enough, but they are being pressured by retailers for a price cut, which would eat them alive if the console starts selling.

They need to convince people it's worth buying right now, an expensive machine with no games other than expensive, poorly performing 360/PS3 ports. Rather than a new cheaper Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 with a ton of games already available. They will soon need to do that against an even cheaper 360 SKU, the new Durango, and the PS4 with Vita integration & a PS3 cut.

Steambox is coming too. Nintendo has a lot of money in the bank, and they are going to need to burn a lot of it to weather the coming storm.

They need to view this as a huge crisis, and start releasing first party games that are new and exciting. The pillar of the 3DS as a revenue stream will help, which is why I think at best, they'll break even this generation.

well here is the thing why downsizing their E3 presence is a bad thing
E3 is a huge thing it might be dwindeling but its still one of the few times mainstream anything is looking at the games industry

nintendo has a new console and its floundering it has almost zero exclusive titles
its support is dropping liek flies
thir dparty titles are getting pushed back
and most casual gamers and parents have no clue what it is

E3 is the perfect oppertunity fo rnintendo to tell the world what it is
they should be supporting the wii u with a marketing blitz

but so far nothing

and them pulling out of a huge presentation on the biggest annual gaming expo shows a lack of resolve and confidence from nintendo in their own product
they need pokemon
a new actual wholly new mario game
a new mario kart
nintendo needs their heavy hitters and they need to make it clear these games are coming
becuse right now they seem to be doing fuck all in regards to the wii u

I'm pretty sure the custom GPU & the hardware in the tablet controller is expensive to build, to the cost of around $100 or more for the controller.

I assume the low latency display tethering chipset on both ends is where the cost really lies, but I haven't really cared to look into it.

They're not skipping E3. They are simply having several smaller press conferences focused on more specific audiences as opposed to one big press conference where they try to address everyone at once. They will still be at E3 showing off their new games.

Is it just me, or does this sound like a better idea for organizing these sort of events in general? (aside from publishers with an entire focus on a relatively narrow market segment and software genres)

while i usually dont care for the doom and gloom ongering surrounding nintendo's wii U ( which has problems )
and its total of 4,8 million sold is on the new console track ( ie slow while building its library )

Should have paid miyamoto more. Nintendo used to produce good quality games on their own which they could release exclusively for their consoles. In my opinion once you have to rely on third party support, you're already failing. The game system is nothing without good games.

The usual doom and gloom Nintendo discussions are always comical. Nintendo is not having the typical one big conference and that is somehow bad. Microsoft and Sony both will have officially announced their new consoles away from E3 yet that is acceptable? Explain.

Spin it however you want but it looks bad on nintendo,things are looking bad for the wii-u just as many had predicted and now for the first time they are taking a backseat at E3?

In my opinion nintendo should start throwing some money around and get some exclusives signed up,as well as working on new franchises.It seems they release the hardware and hope for the best,software drives the hardware.

People who can look outside of the box see the insignificance in the lack of one big Nintendo press conference. Apparently all three companies understand E3 isn't the end all, be all for gaming announcements. If it were as monumental as people suggest, Sony wouldn't have officially announced its system on their own nor would Microsoft schedule their console reveal for next month.

Being frank, the past few E3's have been lack luster to say the least.
