    Default Playing imports on Dreamcast

Do discs that allow you to play imports need to be re-used every time you play a game? (example the dcx) http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-...dcx-70-uj.html

If so I've heard this can damage the system over time. Is this true, and would having a region mod done be better for the system in the long run?

I use the Action Replay CDX disc to play imports: it's simply a matter of running the boot disc, and opening the door when the program tells you to. You then put in your imported game, close the door and away you go. I don't see how that could damage your system at all.

You need to reuse the disc every time you turn the machine on.

I use the dc-x, and before that I was using the gameshark cd-x. Yeah, you have to put in a boot disk each time you play a game.

As far as it hurting the system, I've heard it damages the laser overtime, becuase of the constant switching out of disks, but I can't personally verify that to be true.

You can get a Gameshark CDX iso here:

    http://www.megagames.com/dc/dc_utils_bootcd.shtml

It should work fine with every import. If not, I'll try and rip my DC-X disc and make an iso.

CD-Rs in general cause extra wear on the laser. It has to do with how GD-ROMs are normally read. The DC-X doesn't have this problem because it was burned in a special way to imitate a GD-ROM (look at the disc, you'll see a bunch of circles).

If you're going to use ISOs/CD-Rs, the "dummy file" method minimizes the problem.
