Yeah that was where my previous post was going, it's weird seeing xbox one with blu ray when all this "digital, stream only" talk been around for a while. Surprised they are using physical media because aren't people complaining about used games being locked out or errors with registration of new games or ? I thought this generation was d/l / stream only. Like, the Ouya won't use discs right ?

I'm asking cause I just got rid of the facebook app in my Dune HD media player and I'm feeling somewhat old here!

is this a thing? sitting around the tv with your parents and facebooking? I thought kids were sneaky,
cause I have this cousin twice removed etc who was very eager to hide his MSN conversion when I came in to say Hi.

or do 20 something's sit in their apartment and facebook from the couch? you'd think the keyboard on their lap would prove annoying,
but I guess this is the generation that mastered those tiny phone buttons..
I don't personally do it, but I have many friends - mostly military, which might explain things a bit - that use facebook and twitter from their 360 and PS3 consoles right now. I'm not really sure what features it has to offer over a phone or a computer, but the demographic is there, in some fashion. The military aspect of it is I would guess being able to skype or voice chat over a console onto a television screen if you have friends half way around the world, but that's just simply what I said it was - a guess.

You might be right, and for the most part, most people don't really care about DRM or sharing games, because their friends and family likely have their own Live accounts and all play CoD or whatever together already. The infrastructure is nothing new, but with this new generation of consoles, MS is coming right out and saying we have everything you need right in one spot - there's no need to go anywhere else. And if history is any lesson, the pricing should be similar to the 360 and PS3 launches, although I expect Sony to come in under the 600 mark they did with the PS3, mainly because the blu ray drive is no longer new tech.

All this "you can watch netflix, surf youtube, watch movies, fb/twitter (snore fest) pour you coffee" on your consoles start getting old in early 360 / ps 3 era ? Funny how the last thing talked about when the own companies boast about their new console are great games. It's been a bells and whistles fest since ps2 or ps3. "You can skype on the toilet while playing call of duty online in another window next to the skype window so you can tell your friends how you are beating some person in another states ass as you fart out your ass on skype live". Wow. Oh, and it plays other games.

Yeah but at least now with Xbox One you'll also be unlocking "achievements" for doing so.

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...or-watching-tv

    So I guess something like:

*Achievement unlocked: Saw boobs in Game of Thrones*

Get 50 achievement points for watching an episode and 2000 for watching the whole season.

There's an app that tells you if any of your family members are birds..... ... but does it play games?

I'm fine with the unassuming design of the XBOX One. It's design is nice, clean, and unassuming.

    Hater!

It would look awesome next to our tv's, and when it overheats and dies it will look like HAL is angry at you,
looking right into your soul with its RED EYE OF DOOM!

when a set-top box dies its just not that intimidating.

Like a JVC from 1978, not a bad thing. There's only so much you can do aesthetically when designing a consumer product. It tends to go in cycles for a few decades where it's all about bulk, curves, shapes, spheres, then it transitions to boxes, clean straight lines, flat surfaces, minimalist design which is what we're currently back into. The Okama Gamesphere is very out right now.

This was my thought as well; the current gen *already* serves as a digital center if that's what you desire. Saying the Xbox One is going to be the digital center of your living room is hardly enticing. Already been done. Come up with something interesting.

Basically, Microsoft is saying, "We want you to spend all your money through our console, and we want you to give us a cut". Not much of an incentive for me to buy one...
