the nes was apparantly released on 18 oct 1985 in the usa

I'm not sure in terms of a nationwide release date, but the initial date I most see bandied about is that of 18th Oct 1985.
So when wishing 17days a happy b'day, be sure to revive this thread on the 1st of October.

That 1985 release date corroborates my receiving the NES Control Deck set with SMB pack-in for Christmas 1985, and no, I lived nowhere near NYC. I just had never seen a specific date down to the exact day before now, so wondered how 17days could have known. Thanks, guys.

according to thatgamasutra article ( and other sources) the games the nes came with in 1985 were duckhunt and gyromite in standard retail boxes ( to give it that toy feeling )
smb 1 came as a pack in later
are you sure it wasnt a game you got with it ?
