Thread: Issues with Super Gameboy

    Default Issues with Super Gameboy

So I bought a super gameboy, and when I played a game, there was a white line that flashes across the very bottom at seemingly random intervals. I Bought a second one, thinking maybe the cart was bad, but the second one does it too. I tried it in my handheld emulator, and it does it too. So its got to be the cart itself. Any idea whats going on?

I dont have a super gameboy but My guess is its perfectly normal and are some computing artifacts the were hidden by traditional CRT TV overscan. The NES has them too. Are you playing on a flat panel tv?

Yes I am. I never even thought of that. It seems like it only does it when the supergameboy accesses the cart. For instance, on pokemon blue, it flashes when i enter a building or go into my party.

Do you play then on a LCD tv? Any ideas what the issue might be? Like I said, its with both of them, and they do the same thing on my SNES and my Retroduo portable

The line is at the very bottom of the screen, literally the last few lines of pixels. Its more noticeable on a large TV.

Yeah, that definitely just sounds like video information that would have been cut off on a CRT TV due to overscan. I wouldn't be worried about it, sounds pretty normal.

Why not? Sounds like a good plan to me!
Or just get a good CRT ? They are totally better for retro gaming.

That's an option. But if its a fixable issue, I'd want to fix it

No I user a crt. I have noticed on my capture card it picks up image ranges that my crt doesn't. With a lot of games on older consoles in these extra image ranges sometimes I get garbled graphics and interesting things showing up, usually I resize the video before uploading it to youtube to cut that stuff off. Maybe this is what you're experiencing?

It's not fixable really unless your TV has some kind of option to move the displayed image so you can hide the overscan area. What you're seeing is supposed to be there it was just designed for TVs that didn't show it.

If you play a lot of old games you should get a nice CRT anyway. You could probably count the amount of dollars it will cost you on your hands.

I might do that. Thank you all for your help.
