Hey guys,
just wanted to say, that out of all the gaming websites out there.. I find Sega-16 has THE BEST technical information out there.. and I read Digitpress, nintendoage, racketboy... Sega-16 all the way baby!
Anyhow, I'm always reading about which Genesis model revisions has the best Video/Audio... but how does the CDX compare to all of them?
We should make a Sticky about this topic.... just a list of best systems and revisions.. and how they all compare to each other, and which one is best.
Edit: I found this sticky, which is super informative "GUIDE: Telling apart good Genesis 1s and Genesis 2s from bad ones"
however, if there was a condensed version, that would be great..
ultimately, I want to know what video encoder and sound chip are the best to look for.
something like this...
1st.) Genesis model 2 va3 - has XXX video encoder, with xxx sound chip.
2nd.) Genesis model 1 va2 - " "
3rd.) CDX " "
thanks guys!

Any model 1 with "high definition graphics" will sound fine enough.
Myself I suggest skipping the video encoder. Genesis composite just isn't good enough for it to matter.
Much better off attaching something, even if just 32X, to convert from its RGB.
Genesis 2 with Goac audio mod, the win! Goac does just what CCAM did but Tiido don't like inverting op-amp circuits so he instead used transitors and lot of resistors with biasing and non-inverting op-amp amping. Goac uses instead biased inverted op-amp amplify which handles orginal audio directly with some filtering with cap to make sound more clearer and in same time reduces resistors a lot.

Be true to yourself. GFX doesn't matter, the game does. If you are intrested to donate one NTSC Genesis for hardware testing purposes, please pm me.
Those answers are pretty much all in the thread you mentionned but if you want a quick summary I can tell you that the best stock model is a high definition Model 1.
For the model 2 the best stock model would be a VA4. Best encoders would be the CXA1145 and the CXA1625.
While the answer is straightforward for stock consoles, once you start modding them it becomes much more complicated. Depending on what mods you want included the best consoles may vary.
I always rag on m1 va7 but it does have best video out of revisions of model 1. But like I said it's sound is that of most model 2s, shit (worst of model 1 revisions for sure).
I'm guessing cdx and nomad had extra filters like model 2.
Thanks for taking the time to answer that Maxwar.. appreciate it.
how does the CDX and 32X compare video/sound wise
I wonder what is THE ULTIMATE stock setup for best video/audio? For this i'm taking into consideration SegaCD addon's as well.
Would it be a Model 1 High-def w/ Sega CD... sound routed out the Sega CD mixing ports, or sound coming out the Genesis headphone jack.
and let's debate!
This is what happens when your a collector and you have too many damned options lol
I doubt it. The genesis has to produce that sound first.
What I've heard is entirely different, VA7 having trouble with 50hz mods.
Needed for a few PAL games but most of our SD CRTs don't accept it anyway (HDTVs have better chance).
I said it a million times but you are curious so I'll repeat it, imo the best stock sounding model 1 I have is the va2 revision. You can almost directly pinpoint a va2 or va5, va6 or w/e by serial number. Va 6.8/7 are obvious, no "high def graphics" logo and no rear ext so sound is shit but video great. Unless you mod. Drakon, I have a va7, want to buy it so you can mod it, even if it's for another member ?
