YouTube The Gaming Portal TV Youtube Channel (Official Thread)

It's going to be mostly "Let's Play" videos of my son (15 yrs old) and I (33 years old) playing video games. Old & New.

We'll be giving insight to games from our different generational views.

Here is our 1st video. We learned a lot from making this 1st video. And we just wanted to get our feet wet and try it out.

Since making this video. I've upgraded our video equipment. So expect a huge quality difference on the next video.

What we learned so far is that we want to make it more entertaining. Better editing, lose the green screen, maybe do a montage video of us going to the used game store to buy the game we're going to play, etc.

Here is a short video of our new animated logo I designed.

Just wanted to see what you guys thought, and if you had any suggestions...

    Thanks!

    1. Zoom the camera out and center it where both of you are symmetrically positioned.

    2. If you are actually wanting to get some subscribers you need to master the art of dialog.. It needs to be continuous and substantive while sounding exciting, fluid, and thought out.

    3. Lose the little box you edited in between the two of you for any gameplay. Gameplay needs to be fullscreen with the dialog over that.. While both of you are very pretty we don't need to see you for the entire video. We want to see the focus of the video.. The games.

    4. Put some forethought into the layout or sequencing of your video.. Make is obvious to the viewer so it looks like there is a structure to your video instead of just 2 guys talking randomly for 20 mins. Example.. Intro, history, set up, dialog/gameplay (this needs is own structuring), conclusion.

    5. Make sure the games that you are talking about are interesting.. Or be able to present them in a perspective that is.. For example, the AVGN plays terrible games that are boring as shit but presents them in an entertaining way. This has to be done regardless of if the game is interesting or not though obviously.

    6. Know your history! Its way more interesting to watch someone that is well informed and can pass on some of that information to their audience. It also makes you look like more of an authority and garners you more respect... Which ultimately equals more subscribers.

These are just a few suggestions off the top of my head. I don't make videos but I do watch a lot of gaming videos and I find that these things are common among the best ones. It looks like you guys are pretty competent at editing so with a little prep work and practice it shouldn't be hard for you to make some quality stuff.

Thanks! I really appreciate it. This was just something that my son wanted to do. So we did this pretty quick. After we finished it, we realized that we really need to edit things down and make it more entertaining for the viewer. Also going to make a script next time. Thanks for the input, and expect a huge difference in the next episode! (Might even just pretend like this one never happened... haha)

It was kind of a "hey let's try this". Then after the 1st one was done, "Wow, this could actually work. Let's get better equipment and take this seriously."

Thanks! I've never done video editing EVER. I'm a graphic designer by trade (large scale sign designs), but never something like this at all. So I'm slowly learning Sony Vegas and what it can do. But keep checking back or subscribe to the video. And thank again for the help!

Probably the biggest mistake I see on youtube videos is people recording audio from the crappy camcorder mic. Get some shirt clip-on mics it'll make a world of difference.

Also hot d@mn having a kid when you're 18, now I can see why they call you dog!

Fixing the audio too. Got a nice boom mic, never thought about shirt clip mics. We'll see how this does.

And I was wondering when someone was gonna do the math! Ha!

Didn't get my HD camera in until this Tuesday. So filming of Episode 2 will start Friday. We also were able to get our hands on a Go Pro. So we'll have a short montage of us going to buy the next game we play/review. Should be fun!
