Looks like I'll be picking this one up, but will probably wait until it goes on sale on Steam.

Those sprites and backgrounds don't mix, not even a bit.
Looks fine to me. Do people actually think the Castle of Illusion remake will top this ?
Like I said before, 1st Money Bin level really feels out of place with characters. But the rest of the levels look great!
Just beat the game BTW! Awesome super extended version of the TV theme song during credits! That was a nice treat. Then after that a piano melody of the other levels music. Well done!
Now it's time to go beat it again on a harder difficulty!
Are they still considered sprites at this point? But I agree the character animation is so amazing in this game! Though I kinda wonder why they didn't animate them talking. They all do quite a bit of scene specific animations. You'd think they could come up with 4 or 5 mouth movements to make them talk. But now I'm getting really picky.
And as much as I love the voice-over work... It does get a bit old after a while. Especially just the random things that Scrooge says during game play. And every time I find the secret part of each level, it's the same extended voice over part. "Mrs. Beakley! What are you doing here?" At least Mrs. Beakley's part isn't the same, she at least changes it up.
But Scrooge says a few things that are just pointless. Like every other time you get on a rope. "Going Up!" Even if you're actually going down... And the rope can only go down...
Did find today where you can switch the music to all 8-bit versions, which is nice. But still seems a little loud in comparison to the sound effects in the game. Not the voice over's mind you. No... they turn down the music EACH TIME anyone says something... Even "Going Up!"
But wow... I'm being really nitpicky! - I did enjoy the game, and was happy with the ending! And the final boss battle was quite difficult. Even on easy. Except when you die, you start right back at the boss. So that made things a little easier. But maybe that's just on the EASY setting. I'll let you guys know more when I play on hard next!
Got this on the PS3. Is it my old, slow reflexes, or are the controls a bit touchy? It's decent to good... the voice actors are what put it over the top for me.
I don't have much hope for Castle of Illusion, but we'll see.
How hard is it for programmers to do 2D layered backgrounds these days? Does no one know how to do them anymore?

It's a nice little platformer, but the PC version is a mess at the moment. Even after Steam updated my game, I still experience constant sprite flickering and high CPU spikes, bringing the game to a crawl. Exiting the game will just produce a black screen; I have to manually kill the process to get back to the desktop.
Not impressed with the PC port, but I'm sure they'll fix it eventually. Good game otherwise.
Such a smart move to remake this game. I can't wait to play it.
I like the remake, but I have a couple things to say about it. (cause this is the Internet, my opinion matters!!!)
1. 3D backgrounds and 2D sprites, yeah.. it works and I see why they did it (makes animating the backgrounds easier)
but you cant help but wonder what might have been with real drawn backgrounds.
2. Mr McDeeeeeeeeee Mr McDeeeeeee, I gotta talk to you! Unca Scrooooooge Unca Scrooooooge let us talk to you!
blesss me bagpipes, I found a quest item, lets just talk about it, and.. talk about it, and.. talk some more!
I've only played the Inca level so far and there's been more talking going on then in a regular Ducktales episode,
Me thinks they're fluffing, and or stuffing.
Other then that its a damn good game.
The talking is to make the presentation feel like an episode. You can be sure they would have done it on the NES if it was technically possible. This game is what it's supposed to be, and it's fucking great. Anybody complaining about this needs to go look at what the bland presentation of Rocket Knight.
I can't wait for Strider HD & Castle of Illusion.
It plays same as the nes version, which had stiff controls and made jumps feel weird.
Cool idea and presentation just not for me.
