I did not need anything on the Y line in my MD2 when I tried the S-vid mod.
RGB to YUV converter is something US people can use to get the best quality on their equipment which lacks RGB in but has component input.

hey, i recently managed to pick up a model 1 megadrive for super cheap, and, as it was so cheap, im having some trouble with it, it wont boot up..at all, even with a new game inside
i have attached some pictures of my problem and i hope someone can help me fix it, or just give me some advice
thanks
(Basicly, when i put the cart inside and flick the switch, the LED comes on meaning its being powered, but as seen in the pictures, all i get is this weird white screen thing and a brief hissing noice...)
any idea's people, i would love to get this thing working for some good ol retro gaming
I was kind of toying of the idea of this combined with an scart cable--but that'd be like $40 and I don't think it's too hard to get the genesis to spit its rgb out some jacks I throw on the side along with stereo sound. Valid plan?
I'm pretty sure the component cables are where my projector takes its rgb in, so all I should have to do is build myself 5 rca jacks on the side and I've got the best possible video with no little circuits at all required.
that s-video issue with vertical lines in solid color areas would bug the hell out of me after a while.
@thepspgamer - this MD1 seems to have something REALLY wrong
@reaperman - you have a MD1, its easy to get all signals out of the system as all connectors are standard. If you can solder, you can buy some cable, a DIN8U plug, 6 RCA connectors (R,G,B,Sync/Composite, AudioLeft, AudioRight) and a TRS (heaphone connector) for sound output from MD (the DIN does mono only).

Yea apparently the MD2 (some) has the better video encoder chip, don't need the amp at all.
PSPGamer, I see that your tv is tuned to channel "10". It could simply be your RF module is stuffed. My MD1 through it's RF module (before I ripped the bastard out to make room for my AV and S-video out) had picture but the snow storm SSSSSSHHHHHHHH sound. once I made the switch to AV, there was no more issue. Just a thought. Oh BTW the hole left behind for the RF is a perfect size for the S-video socket!
When people learn RF is illegal :P

I learned you used RF, I would say you need to throw the RF cable away and get a AV cable :P This is a good recommendation BTW
I guess doing manual tuning on TV had no effect ?
Since its a MD1, if you plug in headphones, do you get any sound ?
Board pics are always nice

all i get is a loud buzzing sound through the phones socket when its on
il post some board pics later
The same happens to me when I've used a pirate AC adaptor? Is your AC adapter Sega branded?
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice...
When I had the RF unit in (and had picture but the SSSSHHHH sound) the sound from the headphones was not 100% clear. It was better but it had an ever so slight SSSHHH to it). Since turfing the RF unit out and running the stereo sound from the headphone jack and I haven't heard anything crazy since. But saying that I haven't physically plugged headphones in either.
Whoops! Thats the problem then SNES/NES use AC adaptors (9vac 1.3amp from memory). You need a DC Adaptor, the mega drive says it needs 10VDC 1.2amp but I use a 9VDC 1.3amp switchmode power pack. As a bit of jolly interesting I rigged my multimeter up to see what the current draw is of Mega Drive 1 and it is 610mA at 9VDC. The master system2 I have, for a bit more jolly interesting, draws 430mA.
A MD1 power supply has a 5.5mm plug (OD) 2.1mm (ID) and has the centre pin as negative.

thepspgamer, try to use an original Sega genesis adaptor and post the results.
