I am obviously new to the forum

OK with reading further in the forum I Have decided to tell you what I have found to help the troubleshooting process...
The CDX has sat in a sealed container for a few years now
If I put a cart game in it works fine.
If I take the cart out then power it on I do not get the splash screen for the cd's
It will play music cds if you put one in and hit play but if you turn the power on it will not go to the screen either.
I tested the power supply (it is the original 9.5vdc 1.5a ) I get a little over 12vdc out the pack with no load. (meaning not hooked up to the CDX)
    Please Advise

No it won't make any difference and GG and/or AR should not affect MCD stuff.....

I used a stantard networkcable, would a shielded cable improv it even more?

And btw, I bought a Pro action replay, will that allow me to play asian games (with the regionswitch ofc) without widening the cartridge slot?
I take the liberty of asking again.

Shelded cable can improve image quality a little

and PAR with region switches should allow playing imports without any additional cutting.

Could be a dirty cartridge OR dirty cart slot

Just a quick question. Is the genesis 1 mega drive 1 the same? Can I follow genesis mod guides on my megadrive?

Yes the difference between the 2 will only be that 2 different links are joined together. Once these are cut and the switches put in place the modified mega drive will function the same as a modified genesis. Be warned though if you only have RF, composite (or mod for s-video) the picture will on one setting will be black and white. If you have one of the above video outputs you need to also modify the video encoder chip as well. If you have scart then ignore everything I said.....

heres a quickie. You can play genesis games on a mega drive 1 and vice versa just with a 50/60hz switch right?

I have seen a few games that are also affected by the region switch as well. I mean if I turn on a game with the region switch selected to JAP the screen is blank, flick it back to ENG and it's all good.

I have 1 Genesis game that doesn't like Pal format ie come up with the warning "Developed for NTSC only"

But switching it to 60Hz makes it all better.

Actually Sonic 3 doesn't like 60Hz AT all, even switching it after the licensing screen, Lemmings is the same. It starts all nice but once playing the game it shimmys and shakes.

50Hz game is not guaranteed to run properly in 60Hz, but the other way will nearly always work.
