Hello again, I scored myself a 32X, it came with power supply and 32X - MD2 cable but alas the MD2 - MD1 cable wasn't with it.

I thought I would be a smart-arse and make my own. I had a few MD2 RF leads laying around and a couple of them had the complete set of pins in the socket into the MD2. So I got to hacking it out for those said pins. I got it out (and what a bastard it was) and then grabbed a MD1 Din connector and white/red AV connectors (My MD1 has stereo AV out). A bit of Cat 5 cable and shielded cable had the lot thrown together.

I followed this for the sockets

    http://members.optusnet.com.au/evilt.../gamescart.htm

But when I hooked the whole lot together, the screen scrolls or the top half is at the bottom and visa-versa. If it is a complete blue screen the image is still and nice. Also I have no audio unless I crank it right up and the sound is all "hissy". One thing I am worried about I thought RGB (don't know to much about it hailing from Australia) had to have a sync line? Could that be the cause? I have multi-metered buzzed the cables out and they seem fine.

I have included a couple of pics as well.

Oh it works perfectly on my MD2

*EDIT* I found another pin out that first one is missing the sync, so fixed that up and it's sweet! Still no audio though

You need to connect the RGB, Csync and ground together between MD and 32X. Audio would come from front TRS of MD1 and go into your TV/amp/whatever or be connected to the 32X and things go to TV via the AV out cable...

Ah I see! Will give that a go thanks.

Ok that worked (thank you), but thats weird that the MD2 outputs the audio through the 32X but the MD1 can't when hooked up to the same points in the plug? I hooked the stereo output of my MD1 to the audio pins of the 32X plug....

Ah well who really cares it works! It is actually the first time I have ever seen a 32X and unfortunately it didn't come with any 32X games....

Planning on overclocking ma MD. Would this oscillator work?:

    C-MAC
    10,000000MHZ IQXO-350C BU

Crystaloscillator in 14-pin DIL lowprofile metal cover. The oscillator is compatible with both TTL and CMOS levels. Frequency stability 100 ppm including frequency tolerance, and variations in temperature and supply voltage.

    Working Frequency: 10 MHz
    Capsule: DIL14
    Supply voltage: 5 V
    Stability: ± 100 ppm

    Make: C-MAC
    Designation: 10.000000 MHZ IQXO-350c BU
    Country of origin: United Kingdom
    Dimensions (incl. pack.): 26X10X15 mm
    Weight (incl. pack.): 3.950 g
    Catalog Page / edition: 1121-56
    EU Customs number: 8541600000
    UNSPSC (v5.03): 32111706
    RoHS Status: Meets ROHS Directive
Sorry for the lazy googletranslator :P

EDIT: could one build a MD-to-32x-cable simply by following these charts?

On the cable front the answer is yes. That is the one I ended up using for mine. The original one I used lacked the pin out for sync. Once I added the sync line it was sweet.

You do have to take the audio from the megadrive straight to the TV, as I tried sending it through the 32X then to the TV but it didn't work. Don't know why, but TMEE advised it wouldn't work and to take it straight from the MD.

Have a look in the 32X threads at a post called "What cables do I need?" I describe how I made mine in there. I did it the cheap way though.......

Hey everyone, I've been having some problems with my Sega CD Model 2. About a week ago I got a copy of Dark Wizard, I decided I'd start a new game to see how it played. I was able to select a character and the intro movie started, and then my Sega CD reset and booted up the start-up screen. I tried loading the game again and again to no avail. I also formatted my memory, which didn't help.

I thought it was the game itself, but that didn't really make sense, the disc is basically immaculate. But I tried starting up a game on Lunar yesterday, and everything was going great until I got into my first battle, when lo and behold, the system resets. Again, the disc in this case is in perfect condition.

Does anyone know what the deal is here? Am I completely effed? I have some other Sega CD games that load up and play just fine, could this somehow be related to the FMVs that are more prevalent in Dark Wizard and Lunar?

I'm really at a loss here. I don't want to shell out the cash for a new Sega CD if I don't have to.

Its dirty connector most likely what you have here, take cotton swabs and alcohol and clean a little

I assume you're talking about the part that the Genesis plugs into? Thanks, I'll give that a shot!

Well I gave that a shot, and Dark Wizard appeared to be working fine until the character intro ended, and I got entered the first battle. And then it reset to the main screen. Tried Lunar, same deal. I don't get it; Sonic CD and Sega Classics (well, Revenge of Shinobi, at least) work fine, I don't understand why these two are being so difficult.

So I tried hooking up another Sega CD Model 2 unit that my friend had in storage, and I'm having the same exact problem with the same exact games. It doesn't make sense to me that it would be the discs, they just have some very very light surface scratches. But could it be? I had the same problem on two different SCD units. Is there any chance that my Genesis actually might have something to do with the problem? I am really scratching my head here.

look through the disc and see if there any "needle" holes, if there is any, you may aswell throw the disc out and get a new one... single hole is enough for the disc to be useless when it gets in the way of the laser.

Seriously? There's no way to fix the discs or anything? I'm guessing you mean those little tiny "pits" that CDs sometimes get? I guess there's one or two on each disc but I don't have time to really study them under the light at the moment.

Dang, now I'm gonna have to resolve this through eBay... what a fucking hassle. Man I have never had such an issue before, this is pretty frustrating.

SEGA CDs aren't protected, so you could try copying them first. While the SEGA can't handle the scratches very well, PC drives generally can. Make a nice clean CDR copy and see if the problems persist.
