Default overclock MD with signetics, possible?

Hi guys, great site here. Sorry for my english, I hope that you can understand me.

I own an US sega genesis model 1 with the "high definition graphiscs" label, dont display the message "licenced or produced for sega" when boot a game, and have a signetics processor. My question is: there is impossible overclock it?

I been looking in internet about overclock the sega genesis and sadly I was shocked when I found that the sega genesis with the signetics chip is unoverclockable. My question is, that is true? It is absolutely impossible or there is some hope?

    Thanks in advance

    Rafael

It is very possible, 14MHz works fine, though over 12MHz is not really recommended as a lot of games will start experiencing issues then.

Thanks for your reply TmmE! In such case, I must use an oscillator for this? if that is the case what are the specifications for the oscillator? sorry for keep asking, I dont have experience with mods.

Also I been looking for a very explicit guide for overclock , In some sites people suggest a site called epicgaming or something like that, but when I try that links all the time the links direct me to some publicity site...Maybe Im not very smart...I cant find that site... but could be very thankfull with you if you post a link for the guide that I need.

    Thanks again.

That site is down as of now...

A simple poor pictorial guide :

upper switch is half switch, which you will have to use if you plan to change clock on the fly... also, you have to cut the trace leading to pin 15.

Hey everyone, my original Genesis decided to die on me so I have to use my trusty little Genesis Model 3 for a while. I was hoping to expand my Genesis library but I know that some games (like Virtua Racing) don't work.
Does anyone know if Sonic 3 with it's weird save ram thing and Sonic & Knuckles will work on it?
I understand that the Genesis 3 can run Japanese games without any modifications but do the games run at normal speed?
    Thanks for any replies.

    Hi again guys!
TmEE: I was reading some of your posts and I found this:

    TmmE said:
I've done the Csync "fix" mod, and these lines appear because of the Csync that comes form the RGB encoder, use your own made Csync and these lines are gone. I'll post a schematic of my sync mixer when I find the pic of it...

    315-5660 = MD2 with good intergrated YM2612
You atached also a simple diagram with two transistors.

My question is, this mod eliminates the rainbow vertical faint lines that the sega genesis displays in NTSC improving composite output?
    Or I misunderstood you?

If I understood correctly your statement I could wish do this mod to my sega genesis, the problem is that I dont know where is the HSync, Vsync and Csync in your diagram, could you be please be more elaborated in this when you get some chance?
If that is the case I wish too much do this mod!

Note: My tv only have composhit or RF sadly
evenmore RGB TV inputs are not used in my country or at least is very uncommon

    Thanks in avance
    Rafael

Should the MegaCD model 1 light up when connected to power but without a MegaDrive attached? Does the lights on the front light up when a MegaDrive is attached?

See, mine doesn't do neither, so I thought I'd bring it to work tomorrow to diagnose it (fuse problem?). However, I'd be glad if I didn't have to bring the MegaDrive as well.

Another question pops up as well -- does anyone have any good tips on how to clean old controllers (the goo on the circuit board that stops the buttons from making a connection)?

    Thanks!

if you've got a model 1 Genesis hooked up to a Sega CD, and have the audio cables coming out of the Sega CD rather than the Genesis, will the Genesis games play in stereo or mono?

I know I can get stereo out of the headphone jack, but I'm just curious about this and don't have the means to test it...

You didn't state the model of SegaCD, but...
On model 1 SCD, I believe you'll only get stereo from the Genesis games that way if you run a "stereo mixing cable" or equivalent from the Genesis headphone jack to the input jack right beside the L/R audio out jacks on the back of the SCD.

Just checked my SCD model 2: it also has a mixing input jack, and they wouldn't put it on if it weren't required, so same goes.

Assumption: you're referring to MegaCD model 1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Se...ive_on_top.jpg
I've never owned a MegaCD (only American SegaCDs), but I'll chime in anyway: the MegaCD has so damn many lights on it (esp. compared to the SegaCD's 2 lights--ready and access) that I'd guess at least one of them is generally on when the MegaDrive is attached--probably Stand By Mode is supposed to be on when it's got power but not turned on? Wish I had first hand experience, sorry. But I'm guessing based on SegaCD that it probably won't light up at all if not attached to the MegaDrive.

I'm sorry some of you guys' questions are going unanswered so long, maybe the old-timers here aren't checking for all new posts and just staying in their normal haunts.

I believe the model 3 Gen will play any Japanese Megadrive game (that does not have region lockout software code) at normal speed and display (since the USA and Japan both use NTSC display standard). The games with region lockout software probably won't play at all. Here's where I'm a bit more sketchy--I think the same holds for PAL Megadrive games, but that those without software that allows them to run NTSC display normally will run, but the timing is off a bit--only ever seen this once on a European copy of Sonic 3 that was labeled "PAL only" that I no longer have access to. I have a European copy of Sonic 2, and it works just fine, but then again it says "for European PAL or French SECAM," so it's compatible with multiple display formats anyway, and definitely working perfectly on NTSC though not labeled as such.

Model 3 won't play Virtua Racing, but to my knowledge, it should work with everything else--I don't currently have one, but I bought one for my niece specifically to play the Sonic games, so I'm pretty sure Sonic 3 saves and Sonic & Knuckles works fine.

Anyone that has more definitive answers to this, please add to or correct my comments.

After being helped with getting sonic megamix burned and running ( thanks to Ghaleons simple directions and great programs) We kind of got confused about something. I don't have my original AC adapter for my sega cd. I have a labtec speaker adapter that works fine. Except it's rated 9.4 volts 400ma. When the Sega Cd outputs 9 volts 1.2a. Ghaleons brought up that i'm only giving it 1/3rd of the 1.2 gigawatts of power. And seemed surprised that it's even running and playing games.

So what does this mean exactly? Could the Ac adapter be listed as the wrong specs? Keep in mind i get no audio hum or any type of noise with the CD, But when i plug it into my sega genesis i get that bad audio hum. I don't understand though why it would cause the hum on the Genesis and not the CD. Model 1 genesis, Model 2 sega Cd BTW. Also can any damage be done? Should i lay off playing the sega cd until i get an official adapter? ( just fixed my sega cd fuse two days ago, so only been playing a little bit, and i always unplug the adapter when done playing) or if anything bad would have happened it would have as soon as i plugged the adapter in? and the sega cd wouldn't have even worked? Thanks for any advice/help.

I just burned sonic meagmix too and want to play bad lol.
