Hello, I have two problems with two different Model 1 Genesis.

One one Genesis, the audio doesn't work, I hear a quiet buzzing the whole time the game is one, but, I CAN hear a few sounds, like sound effects, punching, tires screeching, or whatever. I have tried both the headphone out and AV out. I do not have an RF connector, but I know it's not the av cable, because I bought it brand new, and it works perfectly on my other model one. I have no idea what the problem is, and I'm prepared to replace any parts needed, I'm not afraid to use a soldering iron.

On the other Genesis, everything runs perfectly, until I get so far in a game, and then the video just messes up. Sprites turn to static at random, I get random colored lines, and sprites, and you can still play, but after about a minute of those nasty sprites, the whole screen goes to static-y color-y mess and renders the game unplayable, because you can't see anything.

I got both of these at Deseret Industries (it's like Good Will's) for 5 bucks and I just want to fix them up.

I also have a Model 2 that I'm awaiting the arrival of a power supply and av cable to test it's functionality.

Edit: I should also add, I have cleaned both games I have tried, and the Genesis with the video/sprite problem's cartridge slot.

So even though it's the exact same video output either way, this problem only happens if I use the A/V cable sound. So, why in the world would plugging in the sound from the headphone jack fix this problem?
    No ground connection?

That's the only thing I could come up with. So I guess I'll have to get a different A/V cable, although I don't know why the one I currently have had no ground.

That's the one I got, and it looked fine to me. Any other third party A/V cable that would work? Or will I have to buy an official one?

AV cables break all the time. Almost all of my av cables I custom built because I was wired of store-bought ones crapping out on me. My av selector box has been modded all over the place as well to improve durability and add a few extra features, the av selector box crapped out on me before. Even the s-video jack on the back of my tv crapped out so I added a custom port that should never break.

Have you tried the cable with another TV?

Yeah, I hooked it up to an older HDTV, a new HDTV, a CRT, and even tried feeding it through my VCR. They all have the same results.

I've had brand new cables show up wired completely wrong. The whole reason I started modding consoles is because of this brand new snes s-video cable I ordered. The cable only had a s-video plug and stereo sound rca jacks, turned out they wired composite video into s-video jack somehow. A lot of cables out there are just done wrong.

Cable replacements generate big money, you wire something wrong or wire it to break after a short period of use that's more money in the bank.

So would you recommend tracking down an official cord instead?

Like I said, I built my own cords, I got tired of cords failing. I use parts from all over.

Hello, I'm new to this site & hope this is the right place to post this. I was looking for some help with my copy of NBA Jam Tournament Edition for Sega Genesis. It's having issues with saving stats & initials. I've read about something like this online & was wondering if anybody knew anything more? I have a Rev.02 copy & when I opened up the game I saw that it didn't have a regular type battery. Upon looking into is some more I discovered NBA Jam runs on some sort of EEPROM to save stats. I don't know much about the technical side of things but I was wondering if this could be replaced or how to get my copy to save stats again? I've also read online about playing a game as "XXX" first & then "NBA" to initialize my battery but that hasn't worked. Could I be doing something wrong? Thanks for any help! This site is wicked!

You've discovered the problem with using an eeprom and flash media in general. Once your eeprom stops working (eventually all flash media has this happen), then you need to replace it. Replacing a battery is much easier, beats me where you'd find the right type of eeprom for that game. For something that's constantly re-written using a ram chip easily makes the most sense.

Well thanks for the explanation to my problem. I'm getting another copy of it soon. I think I made a mistake as well, when I got the game I deleted all the stats, maybe this had something to do with it as well. Appreciate the help!

Hi. I have a sega cd Model 1 drive, that ive fixed all of its problems except for 1. the cd drive makes a grinding noise when i first turn on the unit.

other than the very short grinding when its first turned on, it is working 100%. It has a new belt, the leaf switches have been cleaned and re-adjusted, i re-greased the drive with lithium grease, and a new cd pickup has been installed.

    what am i missing?
