Interesting, yeah the one I got from the store is 1amp. I tried finding the exact one online but I can't see it. Perhaps you could try scouring thrift stores, they often have piles of adaptors for various things there. Even if you get a 9v adaptor centre positive, you can switch the cables round to fix the polarity.

Yeah, I tried the thrift shops. In fact, I even got my Genesis from a thrift shop, and I spent the next hour looking at all of the cables to see if there were any that would work on the Genesis. No luck.

I'm more looking for a reliable third party option than anything. Most of the ones I've seen either have an incorrect amp output, or they're just plain unreliable. I did see one from RadioShack with the correct specs that I'm considering, but again, I'm not sure if it's reliable or not.

Last time I checked the model 1 genesis is designed for 1.2 amps. And yes without enough amps it's audio buzz city if you give it enough stuff to draw power.

Yeah, it is. But I've heard from various sources that the Genesis will run fine with the Master System AC adapter, which outputs 1 amp. So I would assume that the Genesis is fine as long as it has 1 amp or over, but 1.2 amps is preferable.

Well you'll never believe what I found rummaging through some things today - the box for the SEGA Genesis Model 1 1amp / 1000mA AC adaptor I bought from Willow Video!

It is made by Foreen Industries, but imported and sold by a company called Simple Jet Technology Co. in Edmonton, Alberta. Perhaps you can get one shipped to you or find one somewhere else.

Awesome find! I did a google search, and I did find their website.

    http://www.simplejet.com/products/sega/

However, I can't seem to go to the product page....so....I guess I'll check ebay.

EDIT: Nope, nothing on ebay or amazon. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy an official one. Thanks for your help, though!

I heard from various sources that the genesis runs fine with the famicom power brick too which is 850 ma. It all depends on how much stuff you plan to run on it. My snes mini I added so many internal circuits that I needed to wire in a nes power jack so I could use my 1.2 amp genesis brick on it otherwise my snes had audio buzzing.

Stuff like flashcarts can be a real buzz kill, pun intended.

Bump for my question on the previous page? I'm fairly sure many people would know what it is considering the knowledge available in this community.

Maybe it would be possible for a mod to move the post as a new thread? Please forgive my ignorance, but what are the conditions to create threads?
Wow, just found the 'new thread' rule by searching on the FAQ. Fifty posts.... I thing this is out of reach for me lol, I really don't want to spam the forum to reach that and be able to post... Have you moderators ever though about creating the threads for the new posters perhaps? Maybe by PMing someone with know-how like Tiido would help my case though.

Would be awesome if somebody else could take a look at the screens

    Another quick question:

Are Genesis controllers supposed to be hard to plug in and take out? Because mine is a pain when I try to either plug it in or unplug it.

Yes sega was trying to make it difficult to plug in your controller, they really wanted to make you work for your gaming.

Hi all, figured this'd be the best place to ask.

Could anyone tell me how to get line out on a VA7 ?

All I've found is tapping the connector for the headphone jack but that's
not exactly optimal as it would be after the volume slider has been introduced
    to the circuitry.

I've seen that pins 55 & 56 on the 315-5487 are FM audio out left and right
but what I want are points for final mixed (FM+PSG+CD+32X) audio where I can
tap clean left and right channels. Anyone super familiar with the VA7?

    Thanks in advance.

Well, I finally got my official AC adapter, plugged in the Genesis, and the image that booted up was all fuzzy, distorted, and the color was off. I cleaned both the cartridges and the contacts on the Genesis, and switched TVs, but still the same thing. I don't know if it's the same problem as julealgon's, but it sounds rather similar. The A/V cable I got was third party, but it seemed like everybody else online was satisfied with the one I bought, so I think it's a problem with the Genesis.

My Genesis is a Model 1 with a VA6 board, by the way. If anyone could help, that'd be great.

EDIT: Oh, and julealgon, for some reason, we can't view your pics. At least, I can't, but it's probably why people haven't bothered to comment on your problem.

Here are a few images of my problems. One is the TMSS, and the other two are screenshots of Sonic 3.

No idea, add a strong resistor on the chroma line(s)? Like, 1k-10k? Some tvs only like chroma strength in a certain range. One 32x I s-video modded for someone his tv the colours were random and all over, I wired in a transistor amp to the chroma and that fixed it.

Ok, the strangest thing fixed this. I heard a little buzzing sound from the TV, so I wanted to see if it was a problem with the sound part of the A/V adapter itself. So I plugged the sound in from the headphone jack, and not only did it fix the buzzing, but it fixed the video as well.

So even though it's the exact same video output either way, this problem only happens if I use the A/V cable sound. So, why in the world would plugging in the sound from the headphone jack fix this problem?
