Does the CDX have built-in memory like the Sega CD? I tried pressing/holding all the buttons in the main menu but I can't get to the memory manager.

Hello all, I have problems reading discs with a sega cd model 2 the one with the silver spindle I believe its rev1. It had a samsung SOH-04T lens and it doesn't read games and cleaning doesn't help. I replaced it with a sony KSS-150A and the motor doesn't respond or spin the games, when I put the samsung back on disc spins alright. The speed at which it spins seems to be ok.
Here's a vid with the samsung in:

After pressing start it goes to the cd player and no disc message.
What is the correct replacement for this model? Where can I get it? Don't want to invest too much on this.
by any chance are you using the original MK 1602 9V 1.2A power supply? If not, that is likely your problem. The Sega CD takes alot of juice for a wall mount AC Adapter-style system and needs that very specific power supply. To my knowledge, no 3rd party power supply exists that works properly. Don't forget to try to blow out the reflective mirrors deeper in the laser assembly with canned air duster as well, sometimes those can cause the problem. If neither of those are the case, try lubricating the rails. I'm not sure what is used on those rails, but anything for lubrication of any CD/DVD drive should be OK.
Forgot to specify that I am using the original MK1602. There is a little humming sound coming from it, but it powers a model 1 just fine. Maybe that could be it so I'm gonna try and borrow one if I can just in case to rule that out. Will try the canned air and lubrication tip. Read this whole thread and everything I could find on google, after this I will turn into a sega cd model 2 expert.
Hey guys, is there a way to switch out the genesis 3.5mm jack for a better connecting and sounding one, the one on my model 1 is indeed in need of some love and affection, I just don't know if soldering on a new one will fix it completely?![]()
Ok......no answers. How about this one, is it possible for me to take the screen of a dsi and replace the nomad's original? There both 3.25, but have different display tech. Just trying to get way better response and clarity out of the nomad, as everytime I look at it i feel like my dog just died....

You'd have to look at the current jack to see if you can find a similar one to replace it with.
And no, you can't stick a DSi screen in a Nomad. If you had the skills to make an adapter to allow a DSi screen to be used in a Nomad, you certainly wouldn't be asking.
Well, thank you chilly willy. I'll take into account that I'm a skill-less soul that doesn't belong here asking questions when I'm up on the roof of some building in my underwear picking off people with a sniper rifle screaming " I didn't know what else to do with my life, I wasn't allowed to ask." At any rate, I'll just say it was cool meeting you (no pun intended), and continue my search for the grail.....
I just remembered a little while ago that the dsi runs at 240 by 196 so that's out of the question. Is it possible to just get another screen in there? Does it have to be a passive matrix or can it be active? The headphone jack thing I actually found the spitting image of the one used in the Genny, but would it be possible to use a better one, to get a better connection? Anyone?Bueller, Bueller, .........I love you guy's

Chilly Willy wasn't trying to be rude it's just that LCD screens are pretty specific. They all can use different resolution, refresh rates, encoding/encryption (analog or digital), progressive or interlaced etc etc and the signals they get could be apples to oranges. The old Nomad is probably analog NTSC at some level but the DSi screen is most likely all digital. I personally am only taking a wild guess at this but I would imagine it would require a vastly complex (and expensive) custom circuit board to process and convert the signals from the Nomad to a DSi screen.
If the 3.5mm stereo jack on your current Genesis is bad then yes you could probably swap it fairly easily with a new one.

So you want to throw away the 3.5mm plug for something better? No problem, it's possible to use a 6.5mm jack.. heck or even use some gold plating XLR plug... As long as it has (atleast) 3 terminals its okay.
Yeah. Well I think at some level the signals to the actual LCD panel would be completely different to say the least.
Nope, you wouldn't gain anything noticeable=P, well unless your connector is damaged, which in case a new one is more than enough.
