That's exactly why I'm lieing and telling him that it won't work if you leave them floating.

Ok i have 2 conflicting suggestions here, Robivy says to bridge JP1 & JP2 but then villahed says to bridge JP1 & JP4!?

On all my Sega consoles, american models, with all traces cut and nothing pulled low or high, it defaults to 60Hz ENG. Just saying.
Customized Sega Genesis Model 1 - VA3. Energy efficient with buck converters instead of LM7805's.

JP1 and JP2 will set your console to american region, but this is a japanese console.

    Did you bridge JP1 & JP4 (right) or JP1 to JP4 (wrong)?

So will any of the 7805s on ebay work?? 5v 1.5a?

I saw those when I took apart the genesis, I don't think it will be too hard to desolder the old ones and solder some new ones in, but is there any guide out there for pointers?

Yes, that 7805 will work just fine. I recommend getting either ST or Motorola 7805s.

I found a Genesis model 2, a/c, rf, 2 controllers, 32x, attachment cable, and 3 32x games at the goodwill today.

After a bitch and a half mixing and matching parts with my other Segas to see what works and what doesn't here is my problem.

The model 2 Genesis doesn't seem to recognize controllers being plugged in. I tried 3 different controllers and none were usable. The contacts seem fine, and the controllers aren't the problem. The plastic bits in the ports that the contacts stick out of seem to be a little warped or loose (like the past user yarded on it a few times to get a controller out). Any idea what I can do?

Do you think it would be the same problem and solution I found here? :

    http://www.digitpress.com/forum/show...r-Port-Problem

Or do you think it's just the plastic getting in the way?

    Thanks in advance.

I think the controller ports are bad. The ports can be replaced, though.

The connector itself is obviously generic, bajillions of uses. Finding one to fit nicely might be tougher.

Should I open it up and poke around to see if that's the problem? Anything I should look for?

I was planning on just flipping it on ebay, so if it's not an easy fix I might just sell it as a parts/project Genesis. I don't want to waste much time or money with a fix.
