Genesis sega carts feel hot? is this normal?

I bought a huge sega genesis lot, its the sega 2 system. I probably haven't owned one in over 15years. I was playing for about an hour last night and when I went to take the cart out it considerably warm.

Is this normal? like said I haven't owned a sega genesis in forever so I don't remember this being an occurrence.

    Thanks all

Hmm your blast processing unit might be on its last legs, for you see the MD/Gen2 Blast Processing chips were made by the Chinese,
and like always they cut corners, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster? was actually a worker who brought an MD2 to work.

Not sure what else to say, I hope you weren't planning on having kids. :/

That's normal, the voltage regulator is right next to the cart slot.

    Yep, voltage reulator heat.

I've noticed this varies somewhat depending which outlet I use. I'm assuming this is a voltage drop related issue as it runs significantly warmer from an outlet running ~120 V compared to ~100V. Likewise, I'd imagine using higher or lower voltage power supplies would have a similar impact. (ie use a 12V AC adapter and those LM7805s will run a lot warmer, while running the specified minimum of 7.5V should be rather cool)

The stock AC adapters aren't voltage regulated, so input voltage should have a direct impact on output.

interesting, yeah I have the adapter that would of came with it. So you are saying there is a different after market adapter option to keep it cooler. I have a one year old so yes I would love to keep it around for her whilst playing my NHLPA 93, Mario Lemieux, and Nba Jam TE
