the portable market is going to be over soon. it's all mobile phones and other devices now. nintendo has no chance of creating these succesfully.

Once phone/tablet/(mobile devices) start including conventional game controls as standard features (or standard accessories), they'll be MUCH more direct competition for consoles.
As it stands, accelerometer and touch based games are neat, but there's a lot of stuff where simulated analog/d-pad and buttons are still a big limitation.
No, but people want smartphones. And its far easier to buy a game for something you already have/have a need to use, versus dropping $100+ for a system then $30+ a pop for various games.
I like game systems, but games on phone are cheaper and more convenient.
