    the portable market is going to be over soon. it's all mobile phones and other devices now. nintendo has no chance of creating these succesfully.

    This thread title should probably read

    "Smartphones will undermine Nintendo's portable bidness"

    Because apps are cheaper than portable game systems. Most parents I see let their kids play games on their phones anyway.

    Once phone/tablet/(mobile devices) start including conventional game controls as standard features (or standard accessories), they'll be MUCH more direct competition for consoles.

    As it stands, accelerometer and touch based games are neat, but there's a lot of stuff where simulated analog/d-pad and buttons are still a big limitation.

    smartphones aren't cheaper though. but their games are. handheld games are way too expensive

    No, but people want smartphones. And its far easier to buy a game for something you already have/have a need to use, versus dropping $100+ for a system then $30+ a pop for various games.

    I like game systems, but games on phone are cheaper and more convenient.

    Wasn't it just a few years ago that everyone was saying the console market would be over soon, overtaken by portables?
