Default Which is YOUR favorite Contra game?

I chose Contra III: The Alien Wars for the SNES because it is the best Contra. If it weren't, I'd have chosen another Contra game.

Looks like Contra III is winning with 100% of the votes so far!

Contra 3 has slowdown and I hate the top down levels. Contra Hardcorps has multiple endings and characters with strengths and weaknesses, multiple paths, a cool soundtrack. It's probably my favorite, though I did play alot of Super C. Shattered Soldier is surprisingly good but more of a mishmash of what you've already played with "prettier" 3d graphics on a 2d plane.

Hard Corps has a freakin' doggy with sunglasses and a li'l robot for characters. It's like "Contra for Kidz".

I enjoyed the top down levels on part 3. Not even the Sega CD could do those at that framerate. Plus the music was great, unlike Hard Corpse which sounds like a bunch of kazoos.

You just cant beat the awesomeness that is contra III. even with the mediocre top down levels the other more than make up for it. One of the best two player ive played. and best quote "lets attack agressively"

The robot is the best character in the game btw. its not spelled hard corpse its hard corps as in a military corps.... (pronounced "core")
It's also the only contra to have somewhat of a story. The music is more of a techno thing, which is practically the only way to make songs on genesis sound good.

Contra: Hard Corps wipes the floor with Contra 3. There´s just more of everything: more action, more explosions, more characters, multiple ways and last but not least...more frames per second!
This is really the one game where I must say the MD-game is clearly superior to it´s SNES-counterpart.

But the Genesis sounds pretty bad in this game. It really does sound like a bunch of kazoos.

Both games run at 60 frames per second.

The soundtrack of Hard Corps is cool.

Regarding the frames you didnīt understand what I meant: the SNES suffers from more slowdowns than the Genny.

Well of course it does. The SNES doesn't have Blast Processing. I heard that they used Blast Processing to render Toy Story 2 (the actual movie) using a single Genesis. It rendered the entire thing at 4096x2214 pixels/24 frames per second in about 10 minutes. The Genesis is a powerful beast and Blast Processing is to be feared.

Contra: Hard Corps is the reason I'm reading this forum at all (see avatar). The only other Contra game I've ever owned is Super C, but I've played the original and Contra III as well. Contra III comes close, but it lacks multiple endings and the top-down perspective is so un-fun you could consider it work.

I've never really liked the series so I haven't played all of them, just the NES games and 16-bitters.. It's a tough choice between the MD and SNES games. I like how Alien Wars has actual levels instead of just boss after boss, but the overhead ones haven't aged too well, and it feels a bit slow after you've played Hard Corps..
In the end I picked C:HC just because of the little robot guy..

Probably the first Contra, it has a nice pace that isn't too slow or too fast. I'd regard Alien Wars as the worst one next to Contra Force (Disregarding the PS games). There's the slowdown, the stupid top-down levels, the jump mechanics feel off compared to the other titles, the sound effects are terrible (Is that supposed to be an explosion or an orgy of ejaculating rats?), and the music feels anonymous and is completely washed out by the SPC's bathroom reverb.

Everybody not voting right (meaning not voting for Hard Corps) should be banned immediately.

I voted for Contra: Hard Corps. 4 characters, 6 endings, different routes, many weapons, many bosses, cool music, challenging and great Co-op for 2.
