    Default Console Mods

or "I have money burning a hole in my pocket and my console should look like a beast": the thread

Discuss or post pictures of awesome mods or ones you own yourself

Recently I've been having I guess what you could call "fantasies" about either a matte dodger blue or translucent purple Sega Genesis Model 3 with the 32x mod, the top part of the 32x shell grafted into the outer layer of the console, a white outline of sonic's mug, and maybe a red LED where the red sticker is when you turn the console "on"

I put a blue light in my Genesis and painted the red piece around the light to blue.

What else do I really need to do?

The only thing I do is add functionality mods, like S-video this and region switch that. I don't have any fascination with paint jobs.

Warning, lots of pics ahead, here's my mods.

And the newest mod, DC buck converters for more energy efficiency.

Which did work, brought the power down quite a bit.
Customized Sega Genesis Model 1 - VA3. Energy efficient with buck converters instead of LM7805's.

Could you explain this one a bit more, how does this improve the Genesis?

Instead of using linear 7805's which waste energy in heat, buck converters are switching. Problem is they do ripple a little but it isn't truly all that bad.

    Before with stock PSU.

    After with stock PSU.

    After with PSone PSU.

It has some noise, and will require further modding to clean up the ripple that's causing some noise. But, this youtube video I made shows that it works just fine.

I got the buck converters from eBay, and the demo was the Titan Overdrive demo that's in Blast Processing. The demo that shows all 512 colors at once.

I've never been a modder or even had my consoles modded by someone else. I do, however, appreciate cool mods (that external shot of Tmee's HD Genesis is pretty sweet), either from a functionality or aesthetic standpoint. The Nintentoaster people have made is quite amusing. If anyone has done anything wild or funky with their Genny, it would be cool to see...
