    Default Yakuza pages shut down

The news just keeps getting worse for Yakuza fans. Fresh off the heels of the confirmation from Toshihiro Nagoshi himself that Yakuza 5 likely won’t be coming west, our friends over at Yakuza Fan revealed today that Sega has taken down every non-Japanese Yakuza related site on their servers, except for the series’ official forums, and a minisite for Yakuza; Dead Souls. Trying to visit any other Yakuza related webpage is met with a 404 error.

While the optimistic want to believe that this might just mean a simple retooling for all the Yakuza pages, the more likely scenario is Sega trying to make fans forget the series was ever a thing in the west. Sega has not commented either way, and likely won’t.

The way I see it, this is the true final dagger in the heart for Yakuza in the west. Sega seems to be trying to use the same “phasing out” tactics they used for damage control on the Sonic series, erasing everything basically, on a series that really doesn’t deserve such treatment. I honestly could not be more disappointed right now.

Look, I always thought the Yakuza series should have been huge over here and just as big as GTA or COD or whatever western franchise is the biggest. It just didnt happen for whatever reason may it be the games are too Japanese or Sega didnt have the financial muscle to market them better. Ill cry if Yakuza V doesnt make it over here but Ill totally understand if they dont want to port it.

I was hoping a fan translation project would have been underway by now. True getting CFW on a PS3 isn't the easiest of things but it's doable. If Sega aren't willing to bother! I reckon it's hard work all the same, but missing out on Yakuza 5 and the subsequent titles isn't a pleasant thought in the slightest. Ugh they hardly develop anything in-house to begin with!

The games are still quality and if you base it on quality alone then yeah the Yakuza series should have been a hell of alot bigger in the US but its barely a blip on the radar which is sad. Its really a cult series over here and with SEGA's name brand recognition it should have been more recognized. Guess it just shows how far Sega has fallen. I try to tell people how great this series is but they just dont care. Tell them its by Sega and they still dont care.

some things seem weird though. according to vgchartz yakuza 4 sold 40,000 copies in europe. well in my little area in the netherlands I know 5 people who have yakuza 4 for instance and I saw it in all the shops as well.
