Sega Announced Typing of the Dead: Overkill - Available Now on Steam for $10

^This. I could see if I was still in grade school and this was the closest thing to playing video games during class (<3 Mario Teaches Typing), but jesus christ, that's like being excited for a rhythm game.

You are aware that the original Typing of the Dead on the Dreamcast is typically praised as one of the best Dreamcast games right? Not to mention this is also a PC release of House of the Dead Overkill HD. So if you don't want to type, you can still play the original Light Gun version.

This is a perfect example of the Modern Sega cycle with rabid fans:

Rabid Sega Fans: "Sega make more games using your older IP's that aren't Sonic!"

Sega: "Ok, here's Typing of the Dead Overkill."

Rabid Fans: "THIS ISN'T THE GAME I WANTED!"

I agree. I can guarantee Sega will never produce another console. I do not need or want a new Sega console. I just want something besides mediocre Sonics and RTS games. I despise those rabid fans as well. There is a big difference between customer dissatisfaction and entitlement gamers. That's why I have damn near every console, classic and current gen. I like good games, period. And Sega used to be an innovative juggernaut, and people including me indulged in those games. Like having a real life Jessica Rabbit as a girlfriend, then down the road she changes into Alice The Goon. Some guys would stand there and beg her to return to greatness. The smart ones would dump her and move on. I moved on. Now Sega is just a second rate software publisher/developer that just recently became profitable again. Sega will never have the greatness that Activision, EA, and Ubi Soft can claim, ever.

BTW, I was considering getting Sonic 4 ep 1 and 2. What do you guys think? Should I ?

Second rate by what standard? I don't see how anything is second rate about their position in the market. They're huge, they now have Atlus, they're loaded with still relevant IP, they have Aliens, Warhammer, and Sonic. They currently outsource and cherry pick good and proven developers for their IP or licenses. They are still massive in Asia. They're backing emerging markets. It will never have the greatness of EA, Activision, and Ubisoft? You mean their greatness at mainstream sales figures? That is the name of the game after all, catching lightning in a bottle and growing your franchises into something the mainstream wants. You would somehow be pleased if they caught on in the mainstream with a sequel driven phenomenon like COD?

Mediocre RTS games? The guys who put out Total War & Warhammer 40K? Mediocre? You sound like you just hate the genre without being specific and blame Sega for not financially backing the niche games that lost them money in the first place. Just look at Platinum Games, they made a bunch of awesome action games that Sega funded. None of them sold well despite being praised, so Sega cut it's losses and has 'moved on' as you would say.

They're refocusing on making games people actually want, and they're somehow second rate and will never, ever, have a hit? You're kidding yourself. This whole industry was dropped on it's head by Notch who happened to create Minecraft, an indie title now more popular than God, while all the big traditional games absorb millions in development costs and get burned to death on the market by fickle teenage scrutiny. Sega's placing bets and throwing money around as much as the other big publishers are.

Seriously. List every title Sega published from this ending hardware generation. It's a solid lineup with something for everybody.

I'm not even trying to be sympathetic to Sega either, but I look at the last few years and see them being smarter, cutting losses, and putting out games that constantly get buried by hardcore nostalgic whiners who criticize everything that doesn't make them feel special or blow their minds. I see a company abandoned or criticized by it's so called fan base for all the wrong reasons. People who hate what they don't get, rather than appreciate or enjoy what makes Sega who they are right now.

Typing of the Dead was excellent, some of you are nutso. Overkill is pretty good too, although one thing I do miss is that the guys don't have Dreamcasts on their back.

Wow...mad props to both the Dev and Sega itself. This game was a giant risk from seemingly all angles...and the loons managed to pull it off. I'm glad that this game is doing well. Hopefully this sends if even a small message to Sega about letting loose the crazy every now and then at least.
