I had actually wanted to play the original awhile back, as the concept seems delightfully bizarre, lol. I wound up giving up as I did not feel like tracking down a dreamcast keyboard, so this coming out is pretty sweet. Ordered on Gamefly for $8 and cleared the first two levels on the first try.

THIS IS A TRAVESTY AND AN INSULT! SEGA SHOULD BURN THIS GAME AND SYSTEM AND TRY AGAIN!"
So basically, the 'rabid' Sega fans should get excited at any amount of shovelware or shitty games just because it's an original IP?

So if they announce a sequel to Golden Axe that's a puzzle game I should get excited just because Golden Axe was a moderately okay fighting game about 20 years ago even though it was never that great and a puzzle game has nothing to do with Golden Axe anyway?

I like Typing of the Dead. I'd play it.

Some of you guys are really overreacting though. I don't see how any of the negative comments in this thread particularly translate to "rabid Sega fan."

I'm a bit surprised at all the negative reactions in this topic. The Typing of the Dead was one of the most bizarre, enjoyable and oddball games on the Dreamcast, and I dare say very typical of the Sega of old. Seeing Sega take a risk again with a sequel to this game is a positive development in and of itself, I would say. The fact that TotD Overkill turned out well and is fun to play makes it even more positive.

I'd rather get HOTD Overkill II then a cheap typing rehash.

    Overkill rocked on my Wii.

I got it on steam, and I must say, I rather enjoy it. It's silly, yeah, but so was Overkill; and the first Typing of the Dead, which I also greatly enjoyed.

First impression: TOTD: Overkill plays pretty good, some of the phrases are pretty hilarious and it fits the overall mood of the game (along with the intentionally-stilted voice acting and the exploitation-style cutscenes). It also appears to be a bit more lenient when it comes to punctuation than the original TOTD was, though I suppose the game is stricter in that regard on the highest difficulty (haven't tried that yet).

One minor gripe: Sometimes you can't hear your "shots" over the voice acting, which can be a bit distracting; on a few occasions I can't be sure whether I "hit" the right key or not due to a lack of aural clues. But the gameplay is fluid and the game itself is fun. 4/5.
The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?

You do realize that Typing of the Dead is a series they've been doing since 1999 right? The original was on the Dreamcast. This isn't shovelware or a shitty puzzle game with House of the Dead slapped on it. It's one of Sega's older game series that started on the Dreamcast.

Yes, me too. I've played the PC version a while ago and got my ass handed in a platter, but it was a blast to play it, especially with the characters with the Dreamcast's in their back with the keyboard. The problem for me with this game is that it has only the english language, and it's tough as hell to type fast AND in a second language.
I really think that they should offer languange packs for this type of game.

Yeah I know what Typing of the Dead is, wasn't using that as a prime example, but your post made it sound like if Sega announce literally anything we as fans should just get instantly excited because it has Sega slapped on the cover, regardless of the actual quality of the game.

I wasn't saying when they release anything, I said when they give fans what they vaguely ask for and then fans complain. Fans complain that Sega doesn't use enough of it's older IPs. So what happens when Sega releases Typing of the Dead Overkill? These same fans then complain that Typing of the Dead Overkill isn't the game they wanted.

The game's quality in this case is excellent. There's nothing wrong with it. If you don't like Typing of the Dead that's fine, but don't try and claim this is some shovelware or a shitty cash-in title.

To be fair, fans ask for new installments or remakes of some of their classic IPs all the time, we did get a new (or a few new) Outrun games and a decent Shinobi game, but Sega still refuses to give us a decent classic Sonic game (they should of known for sure Sonic 4 was trash and should of been discarded and started over), Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Hang-On, etc.

Yes because it's more important to not support Sega until they give you Shenmue 3 on a Dreamcast 2 than to support the great new games they release.

Yeah, not quite what I was getting at, more in like with Hez's Sonic Classic or Mega Man 9 or something, not a greatest hits collection of levels that only takes up half the game.
