32X Sega cd wont start with 32x in, and possible non working 32x?

As the title says. There is no game in the 32x, and so i figured the cd would just load. But it doesnt, and looking online doesnt tell me if this is a normal function or not. Could someone shed some light please?

as for the 32x itself. Sometimes it boots past the license screen, but almost always doesnt. and im just using sonic 2. Ive tinned both sides of the pins on the cart slot of the 32x and that worked the first time I inserted it, but not anymore. reseating the ribbon cables didnt do anything either, and they seem to be pretty stuck in the card slot half of the 32x, couldnt get it out. Also found a dead spider inside of it that scared me silly.

Im using a home made cable for 32x to model 1 gen. Since its come on a few times im guessing the cable works fine, but im gonna just buy the official adapter just in case.

The Sega CD should always start up if there's no cartridge inserted, with or without 32X, so yeah there's something wrong with your 32X. Make sure its cartridge slot and cart edge are clean. Also wouldn't be a bad idea to clean the Sega CD connection too, it can get surprisingly dirty.

    Alright thanks.

I confirmed it's definitely something withe 32x. I hooked it up to my model 2 and it gives the same issues. But this time when no game is inserted and I turn it on, I get different coloured screens. Usually white, or different rgb colours. On the model 1 i got a red screen but I thought that was due to a bad din-minidin cable.

again all the pins are tinned with solder and ive cleaned the cartridge slots many times. Everything works as it should without the 32x.
    Any way to fix this?

    What?

Also, if you know for sure it is the 32X that is broken, did you try checking the ribbons already?

He said in the original post that he reseated the ribbons. Half of it at least since he said the other side won't come out.

Btw tinning the contacts, bad. It's already plated. Just needs cleaning.

Deoxit is your friend. Get a can of it and liberally spray down both the male and female pin sets of the 32X. And again, "Why did you solder over the original pins???!!!"

Next, get inside the 32X again and work the ribbon cables completely loose at both ends. Spray Deoxit liberally into the ribbon cable slots in each PCB, then use alcohol to clean the pins at each end of each ribbon cable, both sides.

Finally, use a toothbrush soaked in alcohol to clean good down into the cartridge pins on your Genesis console where the 32X is connecting.

Aside from all this, a homemade adapter cable may play a part. Buying an official Sega branded cable is a good idea as well. They go for relatively cheap these days.
    It is finished!

By tinning the actual pins of the 32X you'll be promoting eventual corrosion, the gold looking coating is supposed to help prevent that.

I just figured tinning it would help create connetions. It did boot up twice after doing so, with the homemade cable. But it doesnt work again. So Ill remove the solder today.
I get the same results with my model 2 and non-tmss model 1, so I believe the cartridge slot on this gene is fine.

Since the cd doesnt boot with the 32x inside I feel like the 32x is still sending some signal? the 5v line on the din isnt connected inside the cable, and the same happens with the official model 2 cable.

ill try prying out the cables again very slowly. And see if I can grab deoxit.
If anything Ill hard wire the pins.

edit: cleaning the ribbion cables more gets me the sega cd loading up about 50% of the time. and maybe 10% of the time it'll boot into the cd game. But it always freezes at some point.

These ribbion cables just wont come out. Even with applying a lot of force. Im pretty sure it's glued in.
