What was the game where you flew around in a ship and rescued people? It had a 3D bonus stage, and was complete but unreleased.

Awesome, though I haven't yet heard of that one (I'm fairly ignorant).Originally Posted by TmEE
Yes, Stef's work definitely. The 8MB Bad Apple will run on a model 2 but the sound freaks out on a model 1, though it did run completely once with good sound on my model 1. Also what is Sonic Chaos Heroes? Or Hyper Metal Sonic?Originally Posted by Vector
What are the most interesting Sonic 2 protos? I'm mainly looking for games that didn't get released, but if there's noticeable differences between a released game and early proto I might be willing to show it.Originally Posted by Foxysen

Maybe. I'm still not sure. If we can find enough protos (not just for Genesis, but for SNES, NES, SMS, Turbo/PCE and even N64) then yeah protos should get their own show. I don't think a demoscene episode would be entertaining enough, but I think we could make it work if we combined it with homebrews at the very least. Because homebrews and demos are done by fans whereas protos are done by the original companies and not released for whatever reason. I'm willing to include a few hacks but they need to be REALLY noteworthy. I tried a few on the SNES last night. Mario Dinosaur something-or-other, Super Metroid Redesign, some other Mario thing and I just didn't like 'em. I didn't feel they were worth discussing.Originally Posted by Christuserloeser
By "Sonic Chaos Heroes" I think he means Sonic Classic Heroes, which combines Sonic 1 and 2 into one game and lets you play as up to 3 characters at a time (the latest release has Team Chaotix-- Espio, Vector and Charmy). By "Hyper Metal Sonic", I think he means this, the latest release of which has new art for each zone.
Assman is correct, sorry for my typo (damn was typing too fast). Joe, Sonic Classic Hereos final version is superb. I'm glad Stefs work will make it in video, very cool. Perhaps use the 2 part bad apple video files ? It'll work on model 1 even with 32 x and sega cd attached and looks and sounds great. I will pm you the "files" Joe.
Edit. Ok Joe, I pm'ed you all the "files" (I sent to Assman too so he can verify if I have final version on Sonic Classic Heroes or not, if not maybe Assman can send to both of us) but I don't have Mairtrus Super Mario Bros MD rom (Krikzz forgot to put it on my Everdrive as default game as advertised in others videos, ah man I'm bummed out) or Stefs StarFox MD demo rom, maybe somebody can send me those.

"SMBros MD by Matrius"
Can somebody just pm me the final version of rom or at least link ?
I started modifying GBMD to be playable in 60Hz. That code I wrote longass time ago is absolutely horrible hahahaha

I'm with you on that one. It got to the point where level redesign hacks just don't interest me anymore. That said, one for the SNES that might be worth looking at would be "Oh No! More Zombies Ate My Neighbors!" They do more than just alter the stages, including new enemies and weapons(your starting weapons get randomized too). http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/623/
There's the Killer Instinct Eyedol patch: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1369/ You can use him in the 1 player mode by default now, instead of through a code for 2p vs.

^DKC's never been my thing, but those will turn the first 2 games into boss rushes.
A little TurboGrafx-16 love, with Splatterhouse Chrome: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/520/ Make sure you understand it needs the Japanese version. Anyway, it changes the stage layouts, but also makes the mask white again, changes up some enemy AI, and brings the butchers knife to the TG16.
NES:
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/369/ <-Extra Mario Bros. Goes metroidvania.
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1589/ <- Vs. Airman. Puts Mario, or Luigi, in Airman's stage from Mega Man 2.
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/875/ <- Super Mario Unlimited is a stage layout hack, but it's centered around the new mechanic of holding the jump button down to bounce higher off enemies. The title refers to having infinite lives. All 3 of these for the original SMB.
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1277/ <- 2 player Mighty Final Fight. That's a little more complex than it sounds, 2nd player can take over enemies, so it's more of a competitive game. Both players can switch too, so 1p takes over the enemies, 2p the protagonist.

^All replacing Sonic in the first game. You wouldn't think it would add that much, but these are all more than just a simple re-skin. The least impressive is Metal Sonic, who I believe is the only one without a spindash, but he does have a downward arcing homing attack. Vector probably has the most variety.

Finally: http://www.soronline.net/sor2_downloads.htm#sw Street of Rage 2 with every enemy and boss character, and Adam from 1, playable. It's still buggy, you'll notice it with special (A button) moves, and some slight hit detection issues(trying to break objects with regular attacks, at least when I tried to with Max) but they're working on it. The current version of this hack added a survival mode as well, but that probably also needs improvement.

Whops, sorry Joe, I skimmed over the first post and didn't notice that you was looking exactly for prototypes of unreleased games, not just any. Then let me see what else I will remember:
Beta of Chaos Engine 2 (though the rom I have simply says "Chaos Engine" without "2"). You can access only one level in two players mode there (which is competive one), so not much. Seems to be different in level-art even from Amiga released version.
Swamp Thing. Well, can access first level only. Plays ugly with funky collision detection. (Well, for giggles)
BeastBall. Amiga port that seems to be almost finished... aside from resolution.
Baby Boom. There are 3 pototypes floating Internet, with latest one being August 11. Seems to be early in development, somewhat playable.
Baby's Day Out. Has 2 betas, most noticeable thing that later one has music. Appears to be fully playable, I got past few levels. Didn't check whetever it's fully beatable, but wouldn't be surprised if it indeed can be finished fully.
Hacks & translations would so deserve their own episode.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.
- Hayao Nakayama, Mega Drive Collected Works (p. 17)
Yyyyep, it all goes same as on emulator, there is no way to beat level 1 (or any) and you wrap to the Field of the level when you die. You can skip to the next level by pressing A during pause, by the way. (There are only 2 levels anyway, with level 1 changing pallete)Assman is right, I hit start 4 times during scaling sega screen got to play stage 1 with no glitches or freezes, yet when I time died, I ended up here, stage 2 ?
So yea, it goes correctly there.
