I may have to post my own friend code.
On the subject of the Wii, all I have to say is that I'm enjoying mine quite a lot. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more when more games come out to take advantage of the unique platform. If the DS is any indicator, they should start soon.
*sits patiently for Melfs friend code*
Not to mention all the security implications wireless networking brings (and don't come running to me with the supposedly secure encryption generally employed) - if I'd deploy wireless I wouldn't trust anything but RSA (1024-bit) encryption (or stronger) through a VPN-solution or similar. Needless to say, no game console is able to facilitate this, so it's all wired for me.Originally Posted by evildragon

But that may be because there's no one else with a computer living in a half-mile (1 km or so) radius.
Ah, Alabama.
So far a gimmick, but I do have faith that Nintendo will develop a game that will make the Wiimote control scheme revolutionary. Wii Sports was halfway there, imho.Originally Posted by Mr Smith
Seconded. I expect it to be a lot like the DS. Often gimmicky, but unbelievably natural and revolutionary when handled correctly. Just look at games like Kirby Canvas Curse or, even better, Mario Hoops. I can't imagine playing either without that touchscreen.Originally Posted by InternalPrimate
Gimmick. A nice idea, but pushing in a direction on a D-pad or analogue stick makes more sense to me than bending the remote a little in midair, and hoping the sensor bar picks up the movement correctly. I can't find any real calibration options in the Wii's system menu other than making sure two dots appear onscreen - I expected something similar to how you calibrate a PC joystick, so you can check it's picking up all the movement correctly.Originally Posted by Mr Smith
Oh, and I got the 'An error has occured' screen half an hour after taking the machine out of the box XD

Thanks for that chaps, I shall be able to use that when arguing about consoles down the pub. When I first heard of the Wiimote I thought it could well bring about a renaissance in gaming (and hope it still will), however, I am now thinking its a bit gimmicky - this is purely from an outsider perspective though and it's nice to have the input of people who own the console.
Edit: I think is the most serious and genuine post I have ever made.![]()
Serious post:
I think the reason people find the Wii to be "gimmicky" thus far is due to the belief that the Wiimote should change the way we play traditional games instead of enhancing the way we play them. This, I believe, leads to some forced control options.
A great example of this would be Marvel Ultimate Alliance. What's the point of jabbing the controller forward to initiate a melee attack? On the other and, a lot of what is done in Twilight Princess enhances the gameplay. Aiming, fishing, and sumo wrestlingare greatly aided by the Wiimote's motion sensing capabilities. The motions of the controllers must make sense in the context of the game in order to not seem gimmicky.
Hmmm, I really haven't experimented with Friend codes, and I don't even know my own or how to add other ones.
