Default RGB on a cheepo CRT TV

Why buy an expensive BVM/PVM when you can get awesome results on a cheep-ass RGB scart TV?

Also, don't know if you can tell there is absolutely no banding or jailbars! (apart from the moire pattern)

Pictures can't do justice, the colors are brilliant!

Because a PVM is still a better CRT. In fact, the Sonic icon in the corner has crap convergence, lol.

Also because typically RGB scart TVs aren't cheap-ass in the US. It never caught on here, so there's few if any (I've never personally seen one, but I imagine there's at least a few kicking around out there)

Ive had both. I actually modified my 36" US JVC CRT for RGB and got some amazing results. Ive had a couple PVMs, Wells Gardners, and some Nanaos in the past and some cheapo CRT (in RGB) can hold their own against a PVM. Many PVMs come in small sizes (larger than 19" can be tricky to find) and many of them are flat instead of concave which never looks as good IMO and often messes up convergence.

Convergence on any TV is worst in the tiny corners, and that sonic head isn't so bad as it could be.

My PVM has no convergence issue on the corner.

Trinitrons historically have outputted a better picture as it passed more energy through than a regular slot mask that cheap CRT's use. This results in a more brighter and vibrant picture. Also, vertical resolution is intense because of the aperture grille.

You can alternatively mod a Trinitron CRT and get the same results. By mod I mean tap the RGB signals and feed RGB directly to the Jungle IC. Same results and cheaper.

True for the most part. Though some BVM's have extremely fine pitch CRT's that a regular Trinitron CRT won't have, and those are seriously just awesome.

You need to enter the service menu on these TVs to manually adjust the values, and unfortunately the way to enter it varies between chassises.

The PVM/BVM's are better...but they are not as common or as cheap as a trinitron CRT or equivalent. Some of you may have x-men vision, but my regular old eyes can barely tell the difference.

More importantly is the condition/age/runtime of the CRT. My 32 inch Wega trinitron CRT is sharper and better in almost any aspects than all my PVMs. One of my PVM is very blurry.

Do you know how to focus a CRT?

Misread your statement. I thought you had said "very fine adjustment". LOL

Yeah, although there are some Trinitron CRTs that match the quality of a PVM. Rare models yeah, but they exist, such as one a friend of mine (same model as mine) had which looked awesome on S-Video and amazing on Component.
I need to repair mine though, its degaussing coils are dead and you know how needed are on Trinitrons.

No, but i want to learn more about CRT.
All I know about the maintenance of them really is how to discharge the tube.

The flyback transformer will have a focus adjustment on it. Sometimes it's on the neck board, along with screen control.
