Maybe if I had a way to play GG games on my TV, a la Super Game Boy, I'd care more.
As it stands, busting out the actual Game Gear is just a chore.

I might look into emulation to play GG games, since I would like to. Still, it'd be nice if Sega could have been arsed to make a "Super Game Gear" back when.
But nooo, they had to go messing around with CDs and life-support add-ons instead.
I picked up GG Shinobi for 50p at the weekend and it's a really great game. Just wish I could play it on my TV.![]()
I saw a game gear add on Craigslist for game gear in a soft case with 20 games for $75. I'm very tempted but price seems steep.

1. SCD, like everything to follow, was a distraction. Virtually everything worth releasing on the console could have, and should have, been saved for the next generation.
2. 32X was a colossal failure and a waste of money and resources. It's nice to have now, but there was never a good reason for the 32X to exist. Anyone who argues otherwise is deluding themselves. Maybe six months after its release, I waltzed into Toys R' Us and got the console and its library for rock bottom prices. Can't imagine why.
3. Sega Channel was neat, but the damn thing worked properly maybe 50% of the time, which was why I cancelled my subscription.
4. NOMAD is neat, but Jesus Christ it leeches battery life like it's going to die within the next half hour. That, and it's not exactly portable. About its only practical use is taking it on a trip somewhere with an adapter, and even that's questionable. Then there's the whole matter of competing against Sega's own Game Gear, which was profoundly stupid. Once again: rock bottom prices shortly after its release.
And there you have it. Four reasons why Nintendo won the war. In essence: Nintendo was focused, Sega was distracted.
Maybe if they had focused on Genesis and Game Gear, we'd be singing a different tune today.
My point was the "life support" argument is just tiring. Whether anything they did was good or bad, none of it was done out of desperation.

Got a few pirate carts myself, most have a menu system, one I have has a dirty great big switch on it. I did have one that was *insert no. here* but it was the same 10 or so games repeated, even though the menu said (for example) "castle of illusion" you got "ghost house" or some shit. I got rid of that one pretty quickly.

I see a lot of people posting how they wish they could play on a tv, isn't there an ad-on cart for the sms that takes gamegear games? I personally just use a modded original xbox, picture is great and everything runs great.
