Thread: Coping with Nintendo fan boys/girls

Fanboys, Ninty, Sega, XBox, Sony etc won't take anything you say as they're like religious converts. They've seen the light and must now shove it down everyone else's throat! It's really quite boring and antisocial. I've told a few exactly that to their face before. That they're boring and antisocial, and that people are different and like different things, get over it. They laugh, ignore me and carry on telling me why I should like their console/company of choice...

So it's at this point I feel compelled to bring a certain gravitas or weight to the discussion. I tell them "this is my main gaming machine of choice:"

Yes, that is my living room, and yes this is the argument finisher with any fanboy. They both respect and fear me now . They respect me for my dedication to the cause, owning something so large just to play a handful of arcade games on, mainly various versions of Street Fighter. But they also fear that I must certainly be some kind of gaming guru, knowing more than them and/or having experienced more than them considering I'm prepared to own something so large, expensive etc .

I'm really not. I just know what I like and have no time for arguing a preference with closed minded idiots . So put that in your SNES and smoke it Ninty Fanboy.

For the record, I should mention that whilst I'm not a Ninty fanboy, I do have several Super Mario Tattoos . But don't worry, I have several Sega ones planned too...

although my name suggest i'm a Neo-Geo fan, I really like all companies....every company has made a good game console, its not really about brand name for me....its about what the system offers....I have had alot of consoles and think every one of them (okay, except Jaguar...and CD-I) had SOMETHING worth-while. I love Mario games personally.....the 8 and 16-bit era is my favorite. I have my NES, TurboGrafx, Genesis/32X and my AES. (sadly, no SNES...sorry)...but I also have modern systems....Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U....I find myself using emulators on the newer systems to play some of the ROMs of older systems more than I find myself playing modern games (But I love me some Grand Theft Auto)

Thanks man. She's a beauty. I have a MAME configured PC in it that boots into a front end with an artwork theme I made myself based on the colour scheme of the cabinet. I then flick a switch and over it goes to the PS3 for Super Street Fighter 4 AE. Although the PS3 interfacing stuff packed up a couple of weeks ago. Still got the MAME, but I do like a good SFIV session, so will have to get on the case and sort that before too long. There's a few knocking around here in the UK. There's a pretty vibrant collectors scene of both old dedicated machines, generic JAMMA cabs, woody and candy alike and from time to time someone will bring a shipping container over from Japan full of candies in various states of disrepair. They find their way all over the continent. I bought this of a close mate, who got it from a guy, who got it from a guy who originally imported it. It's not needed restoring, it's pretty tidy. No cigarette burns, no damage beyond the odd scratch on the side. A little convergence on the monitor, which in time will need sorting, but it's just a re-cap on the monitor chassis. No big deal, but not bad enough to take it out of service. The little boy (4 years old) loves it too as he can stand at it and reach the controls unlike the old woody I had before it. I've had a few woodies and a Daytona Upright, but between space and boredom, I've chopped and changed but I think this one's a long term keeper. I got it for a steal at just over £500. They usually go for between £600-£800. When I got it however, I put all new buttons and sticks in it and replaced the wiring loom, so it's pretty sound and plays like a dream.

Anyway, back on topic, this kind of talk is more than enough to shut up any fan boy, unless they're an arcade or Street Fighter fanboy, in which case we'll get a pint or four and talk gaming all night!

I don't think I would necessarily classify the 64DD as a failure per say, it was just released incredibly later in the system's life cycle and never made it to the US, much like the Disk System before it (which I still don't understand why NOA didn't bring it over here)

I'll have to look into that. That sounds like it'd be the ticket right there!

they arent that expensive this is the one i used to dogitise my ungodly amount of vhs tapes http://www.amazon.com/Pinnacle-Dazzl...azzle+pinnacle

you can burn directly to a dvd r and it will play ina dvd player or "burn" to a folder on your hd and then use something like magic dvd ripper to turn the vob files in to a avi file or the like which makes it more versatile
the software is basic but servicable ( and it works fine with windows 7 )

and i would call the 64 DD a failure it sold 15k units in japan only had around 9 games and was on the market for less then a year before it got axed
even the 32X sega cd and virtua boy did better then that
nintendo even forsaw that thing would become a failure but they went ahead with it

that didnt stop the magazines at the time from hyping it up though and then it was dropped like a brick

Really, the worst thing you can do in response to fanboyism, is to become one yourself. Not that I should probably talk, I know what it's like to be annoyed into that position, but still.
