The other day though, she had the audacity to say 'Other video game companies should just stop trying...I mean, nintendo is gonna be around forever, so they should just give up and make nintendo the only video game company...' I could handle her naiveness when it came to not knowing about Sega CD or 32X, I could even force my fist down from hitting her when she didnt know what a Turbo Grafx 16 or a Saturn was, and I bit thru my tounge when she said she'd never heard of an Atari 2600....but that Nintendo should be the only game company statement REALLY got my blood boiling.... I like all systems all games...granted the Nintendo libraries are always on the bottom of the totem pole, they're still on my list of systems that I own and play. People like her though, drive me insane..... Any of you guys/gals run into this sorta thing? -Ben
don't bother with nintendo fans unless you can actually convince them play dreamcast or saturn or any sega system. when they do that they soon realize nintendo is shit. I've had this happen more than a few times in which nintendo fans totally came around and started collecting sega games. this may not work on pure blind fanboy's like this stupid chick though

one time example I visit a guy, of whom I bought a number of megadrive games. I'm standing in his hallway and his dad(about 60 years old) is standing there too. he asks me if I'm a "sega man" and I can happily say yes. then he starts to smile and tells me he loves dreamcast. a long conversation erupts in which I tell and explain about so many sega games that I love. the man is clearly interested in anything I say. his son comes down and he starts telling too. seems his son was always nintendo fan but in recent years played sega dreamcast and since then he and his dad started collecting sega systems and games and liked them a lot more than what nintendo made. I happily suggested them a number of games they didn't know and afterwards told me how much they enjoyed those games, like shenmue and panzer dragoon games

nintendo just had their wii, by far best selling nintendo system ever and they have handhelds too. I think there are more fanboys than ever. there are even tons of microsoft fanboys, can you believe that? fans of games like halo?

why would you even talk to her? personally I never have heated gaming discussions in reallife but sometimes people just annoy me. I simply ignore them completely. I wouldn't waste another breath on her

Although in England such a thing doesn't exist.
I can confirm this. and in europe in general. but especially so in uk. shows they have great taste actually, same in southern europe where I've been a lot and never found anything nintendo related except a gameboy here and there.

The Wii was successful because of casuals, they don't really get attached to a brand so the Wii did nothing to improve nintendo's fanboy count.
And I like halo , well... the first... and maybe some parts of the second. Reach was... okish in multiplayer?

halo was good because it did everything well for a console shooter. after that is was more of the same. in general microsoft have no games that deserve any kind of fandom since project gotham racing went down.

also, all nintendo fanboys also bought wii, so it definitely didn't hurt fanboy numbers for them. the other 70 million who bought the system were bored families and moms with obesitas

I honestly have never met a nintendo fanboy or fangirl in person. anyone I've met in person at least played more systems then just nintendo and were fairly open to what libraries the other systems had to offer and even remember sega when they still made systems.

I liked Halo only because it was finally like having a PC quality FPS on a console. After a while I realized it was a warhammer 40,000 ripoff pretty much then I lost a lot of respect for it. ESPECIALLY after the moment in the second game with giant plant monster. When I saw that thing I slapped my forehead at how stupid the thing was.

Back to Nintendo. I will berate Nintendo fans who don't know what they are talking about. There are some that have tried other consoles and have respect for them, but prefer Nintendo. This kind of fan is OK. Then there are those who don't know anything beyond NES. I asked a kid one time who did that shit what was the first videogame console, his answer was NES. I insulted him and named 9-12 game consoles that came before it. If he said Atari 2600 then I would have given him some lee-way. Unfortunately with Nintendorks, you have to outsmart and insult them. You have to provide them with the information that the years the SNES and Genesis were directly competing, most of the years the Genesis won. Normally I don't say insult the person, but this case it needs to be done. Break them, then educate them, old Soviet tactic. While doing that make sure that she believes 2+2=Fish afterward for future funny.
This is your money, give me a smoking.

Back in the early nineties I took the sega vs nintendo thing pretty seriously, but today its more of a fun rivalry that isn't a real rivalry anymore. I'm a sega man tho through and through, as anyone could tell if they rolled through my crib. During the summer this local bar I occasionally go to started having video game night. A guy I hadn't seen since high school arranged it. He is as hardcore of a gamer nerd as I am, only he is a nintendo guy. He brings in a bunch of systems like nes, snes, gamecube, n64, 360, etc and hooks them up and anybody can play. Although most people were playing super smash bros & shit like that, A surprisingly good SF2(& killer instinct) contest with over ten people started up on SNES. It was a lot of fun, playing against people in person is way better than online. I hate using the damned snes controller for SF2, (I have trouble using those shoulder buttons, way way prefer a 6 button sega pad)but I still smoked everybody but 1 dude finally beat me.

Anyway later in the evening everyone is buzzed up and the nintendo dude and I started trash talking back and forth about sega vs nintendo stuff, it was all in fun though. Nobody backed down but it was pretty LOL to be beefing about the stuff in 2013. I don't think most people knew what the heck we were talking about not being retro nerds & all. I told that dude I might get in on the next videogame night and bring in a bunch of sega stuff. I wouldn't want to take any valuable stuff though, drunks might break or spill beer on it. Maybe an extra dreamcast or genesis that I have laying around.

Double Post!! The most irritated I get towards nintendo fans these days is when I read the damn comments on youtube videos of genesis/snes games... Morons just come out of the woodwork. I don't pretend to know as much as a lot of people do about retro games, but Ive been collecting and researching for a long time. I generally keep my opinion to myself on youtube. So its pretty irritating when some teenage nintendo fan that wasn't even around during the 16bit war gets on there and pretends to know what they are talking about.

On a tangent now, but APPARENTLY, theres a bar in las vegas thats nothing but this - you pick a booth that has the console you like, and you can sit in and play all video game systems across the board. IDK much about it, never been there, just heard a co-worker talk about it.... ANYHOO!

Focus. Control. Conviction. Resolve. A true ace lacks none of these attributes. Nothing can deter you from the task at hand except your own fears. This is your sky.

Yeah, it really doesn't make much sense. Most people have suggested that they're "hipsters being hipsters", but hipsters usually don't like popular video game companies. I think it's just the pied piper of rose-tinted Nostalgia blinding leading them to think that Nintendo is the be all end all company that can do no possible wrong

I had to laugh. It got so downvoted(I think it was -11 at one point) it was taken off the main page, but I still wonder: Did people not get the joke, or was this guy really that dumb?
I used to be a member of Retro Junk years ago. It was a fun place to be, but after a while, the articles kind of just bled together and there's really no sense of standard or quality to them

I'd say it all went downhill for them starting with the Virtual Boy. It still pisses me off that they did what they did to Yokoi, a man who had given his heart and soul to Nintendo

I don't remember how long ago I came across Retrojunk.

Anyhow, at least AVGN fesses up to it, simply by having "Nerd" in his title.

The "greatest console of all time" is so because it's the one with the most RPG's? Really?

*Realizes the irony of discussing this on a message board about a 25 year old video game console *

Hipsters like popular things that they foolishly believe to be obscure. "Hipster" is a popular lifestyle of its own right niw, which sums up the whole faux "unpopular" fetish.
