Default Genesis RGB SCART to Component

So, I got a SCART cable for my model 1 and a SCART to component converter. I've connected everything up and I'm getting no video. Is there something I'm missing here?

Did you get an rgb scart cable, ie all the colours are connected? Some scart cables could be composite only.

Well, it was going into my receiver then to my HDTV. I thought perhaps it was an issue at the receiver and it wasn't sending video to the TV. Well, I was right, but the video is terrible. It's got lines through it and it's unstable. Let me see if I can get a video of it.

Sorry for the poor quality, this was taken with my cell phone. I hope you get an idea of what's going on. The video bounces from side to side, and it varies on how bad. The lines are constant.

Would you say the lines are jailbars? I'm wondering if this is a crap cable. I know that if they are jailbars then I'm going to need more than a cable, but I wonder if the jumpy image is the cable. Though I have seen cable touting the elimination of jailbars. Perhaps that's where I should start?

I have those same cables and adapter, purchased from the same ebay sellers I think, so I can vouch for them. If this is a modern HDTV (LCD/Plasma) it's likely due to the 240p native resolution. Most modern TV's cannot properly interpret low resolutions over component video. My Bravia worked with the Genesis but other systems it got no picture at all. I wound up buying a DVDO video upscaler to go to HDMI.

Pardon me if I mistaken this, but are you running the component cable from the Genesis model 1 or a 32X? If you are using a 32X you may need to consider a cable with a boosted sync as lower sync output from the console will cause jailbars-like interference.

I had exactly the same YUV converter (bought from same seller). It worked great. The cable that I had however, it was producing some jailbars. I rewired it to use sync instead of the composite video it was wired to, then the problem went away. What type of AC adapter are you using with the Scart to YUV converter?. Make sure it is 12V and that has the proper polarity.

Oh, good point! This is on my model 1, no 32X. However, I've ordered a new cable that does have boosted sync just in case.

Yeah, I don't think it's the converter at this point. I'm just using the adapter that came with it. I sent the seller a message to see if he had any ideas. I'm pretty sure I'm dealing with jailbars which are easy enough to take care of a number of ways. I'm hoping this new cable with the boosted sync will take care of it. I'm more concerned about the unstable image. I just hope it's the cable. I guess we'll see when it gets here.

I would assume it's the cable. I have a handful of different RGB cables, but one in particular resulted in a sort of shaky/wavy picture, though not nearly to the extent you're seeing.

Those lines do look like jailbars, though. Raw/C-sync is definitely the way to go on a model 1; it will significantly minimize jailbars if not remove them entirely. Either that or clip the pin on the VDP that's causing the interference.

Well, I ordered a new cable and they said it transmits only a raw RGB signal and has boosted sync. They guarantee the elimination of jailbars and over saturation of colors. I guess we'll see. If not, I can always kill it at the hardware level. Hopefully the unstable image is the cable. I'm going to test my two other model 1's to see if they're the same. If so, it's the cable or the converter. New cable should be here on Monday. I'll update with the results.

Just wanted to post an update. I got the new cable and tested it out. The unstable screen is gone. The jailbars are much less noticeable and the color saturation is a little better too. I know what I need to do to fix those. I'm just glad the picture is stable now.

I tried a similar setup just yesterday. My RGB cable is fine but I am dissatisfied with the converter (the same that you have). The colors are off. I opened it and tweaked the pots inside and its better now but still seems very off.
