Sonic games.... because no other Sega IP would be worth continuing ever. And no, having this title do well would NOT somehow make Sega want to branch out and revive other IPs. It'll just reinforce the misconception that Sonic games are all that'll ever sell.
(sigh)
Lets just consider all Sega's other IPs buried and dead. R.I.P Panzer Dragoon. Like Sega's consoles themselves, you went before your time. In the hands of another developer, it could have been an enduring multi-platform franchise that everyone looked forward to with each new entry. Not unlike final Fantasy or Metal Gear.
But its in the hands of Sega, so it will forever occupy the crypt with Sega's other IPs.
If SEGA brought back dead franchises, they'd fuck them up like they did with Sonic. Put Iizuka in charge. Iizuka adds retarded shit. Doesn't know how to program the game.
Demanding "epic franchises" out of tiny series like Panzer Dragoon scares me. It always sounds way too much like those creepy logo kids who try to seriously put all these company names together (can't find a good link, but feel free to browse the comments of so many YouTube clips), or the guy responsible for this.
Aside from that nightmare, people need to realize that very few series are actually supposed to be as big as they get; it's a whole lot of factors that really boil down to "randomness". I can't even take a given game's success seriously anymore because I know just how random and how stupid success tends to be.
In other news, academy award winner Chris-Chan also wasn't too excited for the new Sonic Boom game but for the most retarded reason of them all. Also he was arrested recently but bailed out.
Chris thought he could make change by going to different Gamestops and vandalizing Sonic Boom displays and even going as far as pepper spraying one of the employees of the store.
His response after being released.
***Visualshock! Speedshock! Soundshock! Now is time to the 68000 heart on fire!***
Feck! It's really that bad, huh? I was going to buy a Wii U for this (and Bayonetta 2!) when it was announced! Then they announced that it was for US&PAL territories only with no JP release. I buy JP systems so that was bad news for me thanks to Nincrapo and their pathetic region locking. It ended up being released in Japan after all last month as "Sonic Toon". Seriously dumb name! I had slight hopes...... ever slight hopes of it being good when the "former Naughty Dog" thing was bandied about early on. Naughty Dog are just about THE best development team on the planet and they also created Crash and Jak&Daxter.
SEGA need to DUMP the Wii U exclusive bullshit and start making Sonic for the PS4/X1! Shit game is going to sell like shit anyway, but when you release only on the dead system no one wants in the first place, you are going to sell far worse. Nincrapo seem to be pulling a SEGA AMERICA with the Wii U anyway, talking up the new system that will be coming. The Wii U might end sooner than the failed Game Cube. I want Bayonetta 2 very, very much, but refuse to pay over 35,000yen for that thing. They need to drop the price and fast.
Yeah, it's a great series, and even Orta fared pretty damn well.
I wish Sega would sell off some of those old IP's if they have no intention of doing anything with them.
I don't need my Phantasy Star to be more MMO's BS. It's fine if they want to make PSO games... but give me some real PS RPG goodness too.
Shining Force, Streets of Rage, Skies of Arcadia. Golden Axe, Altered Beast... and way more... they got tons of stuff that is ripe across numerous genres (either originally or that would work in several)... they just do nothing with it.
I think they might start on that actually; they had a three-game exclusive deal with Nintendo, starting with Sonic: Lost World. If I remember right the latest Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games might count, which would make Sonic Boom the third one which concludes the deal. We'll see what happens next.
Also I suppose the whole 'green eyes' thing reached it's inevitable conclusion with Chris's antics, in the form of 'blue arms'.
Yeah, I'd love more proper entries in these. Shining Force I miss in particular since SF2 is one of my all-time fave games, though I recall reading that Sega thinks that strategy RPGs are dead now so they barely bother with the series except for some Japan-only mobile entries here and there.
Never mind that it's main rival Fire Emblem is going quite strong.![]()
That's just dumb. No genre is completely dead unless no one makes games for it. The 2d platformer was "dead" when 3d went big in the 90's... never mind the fact that tons of "3d" platformers were just 2d platformers that shifted planes/perspectives often.
But that's alive and kicking still with quite a few new games over the last several years.
Shining Force as an SRPG would work great on pretty much any mobile platform. The slower paced gameplay is perfect for phone/tablets as well. And it's not like they need to make it a big COD/MOH style event game to release it on the home consoles either.
Several lower cost games that pull in respectable sales is better than one AAA game (or close) that does mediocre sales... and it's not like they can't do both. License out the IP to someone that wants to use it, take a cut of the sales, and you're making low risk money.
They made a new proper Shining Force for the DS not that long ago. They just didn't release it outside of Japan.![]()
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
Checked around and can't find anything from any Sega employees themselves stating this so I must have been mistaken, though I did find that their action RPGs with the Shining name did far outsell the strategy RPGs they made, in Japan, which probably explains their shift to a more action style and abandoning the old style. As to why no more western releases, no idea.
Now this......."SONIC BOOM IS THE WORST-SELLING SONIC TITLE IN HISTORY."Sonic Boom is a failure of epic proportions.
