That's pretty dire. This may finally spell the end of Sonic for a while. At least in terms of a major release.
Probably not. You can chalk it up to the outside developer, exceedingly poor critical reception, the overall lackluster performance of Wii U software, and/or the game being a direct tie-in to a cartoon that takes major liberties with the characters. "People are soured on Sonic" isn't the obvious takeaway (not that it's not true).
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
It's been a steady decline though. Maybe another appeal to nostalgia like Generations will be shoved out the door for a sales boost.
Outside of that I can't think of a saving throw that would help them any. I feel the, "we re-invented everything and it's good now" approach is finally wearing thin.
490k is still too high for this shit heap of a game.
I'm slightly surprised that Colours sold more than Generations.

Actually the graph shows that Sonic Colours sold more than Sonic Generations. And I was very surprised about that as well even both are very good games. It's also noteworthy that the graph fails to mention the sales numbers for "Sonic the Hedgehog: Episode 1", an exclusive digital release. Considering the time period, it did quite well. SEGA West CEO was reported as saying the game crossed one million downloads. Anyone have any factual info that backs up that number?
With respect to Sonic Boom, they should never have allowed the game to a third party and simply stuck with Nintendo's playbook ... develop it in-house!

I suspected this was due to Sonic fans jumping ship to Nintendo when the Gamecube got Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and remaining with it ever since (Colors was Wii only and Generations was PS3/360), though I could be wrong. Didn't Unleashed Wii sell more than the PS3 and 360 versions too?
The Wii also had a younger audience, which may explain why Sonic was successful there.
By the way, these Generation numbers does not count the digital versions, like Steam for example.

If I listen to reviews then it ranks right up there with Superman 64.
The chart above shows the last two games on the Wii U and I have a hard time believing Lost World is barely a step above Boom. This series seems to have followed the footsteps of the Alien series where it is generally assumed the game will be complete crap even before it is released.
