I still refuse to believe there's any kind fatal flaw in Sonic Lost World, other than being a Wii U exclusive. I haven't cracked mine open just yet, but come on, they were "inspired" by Super Mario Galaxy. It's gotta be decent.

Sonic Boom Three (This shit doesn't deserve a numeral) has been announced:

Also, apparently, Boom Sonic is Modern Sonic and Modern Sonic is Legacy Sonic. At least Legacy wasn't completely abandoned like old Spyro.
does the world need that many sonics?
give me old, fat, sonic saving his animal buddies, with no mouth.
Details, from the same site...
Sounds halfway decent tbh.– 2.5D platformer
– Exploration toned down
– More speed compared to the last game on 3DS
– Cut back on the length and size of levels
– There is now a linear path

From the comments on that article:
My thoughts as well, despite Shattered Crystal's reception being mediocre, it also had the reputation of "it's better than Rise of Lyric/it's okay". I'm not surprised that it looks like they might have dropped the thought of Sonic Boom on the Wii U entirely. It's a less costly venture and the 3DS is a better selling system. Hopefully Sanzaru Games learned a bit more from the feedback of Shattered Crystal and make a game that's not too bad. Heck, they remembered the bosses this time."We launched Sonic Boom as a new franchise last year with Shattered Crystal, at the same time as a new animated series that airs on Cartoon Network."
No mention of Rise of Lyric. Ha!
From the site that site links to:

Omar addresses player reaction to Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. "With our previous game, it was a kind of a shock to the fanbase how we designed it. There was more focus on exploration and less focus on speed. We've toned down on the exploration and put a bit more speed into Fire and Ice. In the previous game we dropped you into this enormous labyrinth, a Castlevania-style level design. Sonic fans were like, "What is this? I just want to run through and hit bounce pads and spring boards and speed boosts and ping-pong around." So we've dialed down the length and the size of the levels and cut a linear path through the middle. The exploration now happens above and below it. So now you can have that classic experience of running through the level at high speed if you want, but now you can also explore too."
Looks like they dropped the bounce pad appearance for more classic springs too. And from the official Tumblr:

I`m actually glad that SEGA isn`t feigning away from revisiting the series. Instead of walking away from the Alien franchise after Gearbox`s poor effort with Aliens: Colonial Marines, they took a chance and published Creative Assembly`s Alien: Isolation ... a damn fine game!

Yeah but Alien is a good franchise. There's no redeeming quality about Sonic Boom specifically (as opposed to just Sonic) IMO. I haven't heard a word about the show since it came out, and all my friends are immature man-children who watch nothing but cartoons.

Even if they fail I have to commend them for trying, they could easily drop the franchise and keep Sonic for All-Star games (or just sell as much merchandise as possible without games like Capcom with Mega Man).
They even acknowledge that rise of lyric was terrible, and I'm glad they are not going with Big Red Button again, those guys are ex-Naughty Dog for a reason. Eventually Sega will make another good Sonic game, we don't have to buy the shit ones while we wait. I really liked Generations and that wasn't so long ago, same for Sonic Colors.
Better some good games among a sea of crap than nothing.
Is this the end? Will there be another main series Sonic game after Lost World?
I'm sure there will be, Sonic Team have undoubtedly watched the Rise of Lyric fiasco with interest (and despair probably). Hopefully they learnt enough to go back to something more like Colors or Generations for their next title. I doubt Sega's going to be keen to let an American studio handle future Sonic games any time soon though.
Pretty much, though Big Red Button doesn't exist any more so they couldn't go with them again even if they wanted to. It does say quite a lot that they're only continuing Sonic Boom on the 3DS and not the Wii U - I wouldn't count on seeing another Sonic Boom on consoles ever again.
Looks as mediocre as the other Sonic Boom 3DS game.
I consider myself a sonic fan (despite the terrifying community that surrounds it). That being said, the last solid game I played was Sonic Adventure 2. I still have to try lost world and colors, to be fair, but I played so many entries to the series before them and was burned really bad.
Sometimes I see games that almost, even if just barely, make me interested in them but too much of it has become either total shit or rehash. It's just depressing, and most of the time I do wish the series would die to cease it's agony. Sonic boom was a beat-em-up looking game and for that reason by itself I could probably never bring myself to play it.
I completely agree. The last really good Sonic game I played was Generations but that unfortunately stands alone amongst a crowd of tat. My suggestion to Sega? Go back to completely 2D gameplay mechanics (because let's be honest, with the dubious exception of Sonic Adventure 1&2 the blue hedgehog has never fared particularly well in 3D) and stop messing with the characters, designs and storyline. There are very good reasons for why the best Sonic games of all time were and still very much are 1, 2, 3&Knuckles along with Sonic CD but Sega just doesn't seem to understand any of them.
My nine year old nephew has grown up playing all the Sonic games both old and new and even he and his friends all say that the old Mega Drive outings were the best. Take note Sega or let your mascot, who deserves infinitely better care than he's been shown over the years, at least die a dignified death.
