Likewise I can't say much about the topic as a whole. I got out of kart games after MarioKart64.
I will say Speed Punks was quite impressive when I first saw and played it just a couple years ago.

no megaman battle & chase for ps1 on the list? it was my favorite because of all of the options to customize your car, the course designs were also great and the controls were good with some practice. the opponents did get alittle too difficult later on but after stealing all of their parts from their cars it was possible to take each characters complete car after beating them 4 times.
of the kart racing games on the list I would have to go with mario kart 64, it controlled great and had some interesting course designs. The ai was a bit too cheap at times so that's a minus.

Is Street Racer any good on the PSX/Saturn? It looks interesting, better than the MD version.

I think control-wise Mickey's Speedway USA and Diddy Kong Racing were both better than Mario Kart 64, graphics were better on both as well. But the most important thing in a racer, what Mario Kart 64 trumps everything else in, is track design. On the former two games the tracks are very bland compared to Mario Kart 64.
Of the ones on N64: Mario Kart 64 will win, Diddy Kong Racing should win. DKR has better AI without the excessive rubber banding found in MK64, the different vehicle types each each have different sorts of handling (hovercraft, kart, plane), and the single player campaign structure makes it one of the better single player racing games of that gen. It helps that the multiplayer is also more impressive than MK64, as there are a variety of different battle types calling on different sorts of skills (capture flag, etc.).
Overall, DKR and Crash Team Racing are the best of the bunch. Crash, to my "eye", runs at a smoother framerate than DKR, and, while the single player campaign isn't as impressive, and neither is the multipalyer, the basic racing controls are smoothest of the games listed. That said, DKR squeaks out a win due to the overall package and sheer variety offered by the game.
Mario Kart 64 for me, even if it's not the best on the series.
Toy Story Racer and Wacky Races were OK games, and they aren't on the list.
And I played briefly Crash and Speed Punks back on the day and remember SP as a better game. My friend that had the two also comments this. Maybe few people played SP?
I'm missing South Park Rally in this thread![]()
Always thought it's kinda underrated, and certainly it's different from the other racers...
yes but still not very good
Kitsune in a hat
megaman battle & chase for ps1 wasnt released in the US. Perhaps we can get to the mystery as to why. Mega Man was a name brand that sold and at the time kart racing was hot so I cant think of a legit reason why it was Japan only.
It's not Japan only, there is a PAL version of it. If I think about the PSX games that have not been released as PAL versions and vice versa, you have no reason to complain![]()
