There were backgrounds that cut due to the time constraints.

Yeah, it was a little rushed to make it out in December. Barely made it too. But, it still turned out excellent.

Nintendo didn't make arcade games after 1985, so to say that they didn't do that is kinda irrelevant. Some of their games do show signs of being rushed -- but a new game being rushed is very different from a rushed port.

The Saturn port was not crap at all and unlike the 32X version didn't have the luxury of shipping months after the host system 1st shipped or a super tight deadline Still the results are they for all to see anyone who thinks the 32X version looks better than the Saturn versions is speaking rubbish imo
I had a great time with Virtua Fighter on the Saturn; I'm glad Sega packed it in with my launch Saturn. It was all about the gameplay experience and VF delivered that. Yeah, the flickering polygons were a bit distracting, but I got over it after a few plays. Daytona was a worse port than VF was and I still had a great time with it.

Most of the people who bought the game when it was released was expecting a port of the arcade game and that's what the actual title suggests. The extra content was supposed to be a bonus, just like the extras in the 32X version.

Back in the days, it was advertised as the best version of Virtua Racing, which would be as close as possible to the arcade experience and all that bs. "The biggest and best Virtua Racing".
You can love it and find it the greatest racing game of all time, no problem.
But, it's a fact that the collision detection is off, the handling of the original cars are nowhere near to be like in the arcade/32X/MD versions, there are lots of clipping issues depending on the camera angle, the colors are off when compared to the arcade/32X versions, the AI is off, sound is a joke, etc...
It has pretty much all the same issues that the Time Warner's ports of Race Drivin' had (and it's probably using the same shitty engine).
The biggest advantage it has over Checkered Flag is the frame rate, the rest is not that better IMO.

The game completely failed to deliver what it was supposed to deliver. Oh but it delivered a lot of new tracks and "fun" cars? Great but it's not what Virtua Racing was about.
I'd have no problem with this game if it had been titled "M.G.R.: Mediocre Generic Racing" instead.
I'm not really a fan of any of those versions of Virtua Racing. I loved the arcade game, because of its ultra-smooth frame-rates and outstanding controls. It wouldn't be until Sega released the Sega Collection on the PS2, that I finally got a home version of VR worth spending time with.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Just watch the damn videos!! The Saturn graphics are a horrid mess! More polys and a textured floor are worth nothing if they can't be displayed properly.
No need to see Videos I played both versions and the 32X version is a joke put up against the Saturn version. Looking over the gulf in polygons.. you also have the fact that the Saturn version is displaying in a far better screen res , handling far more colours and also simply destories the 32X version for sound effects and music score .

It most certainly was! Its shipping was accompanied by an apology from SOJ for the unspeakable garbage that was VF1
Try No... It came free with the millionth selling Saturn Hardware range in may 1995 and then on sale at FRP in Japan . It wasn't given away free at all in Japan. What the bone heads at SOA/SOE did at the time is a different matter entirely

Doesn't the PS2 port control as if you're driving on ice? I've heard nothing but bad about it.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Or maybe they were cut due to technical limitations?

Seriously, Virtua Fighter 2 was not rushed on the Saturn. It seems like it from a US perspective, but in reality it came out a full year after the Japanese release of the first Virtua Fighter on the Saturn. If I remember correctly development started almost immediately after VF1 was finished on the Saturn and was done along side Daytona USA. Virtua Figther Remix wasn't actually done by AM2 contrary to popular opinion, it was done by AM1.

It has realistic drift like the arcade original. The other ports use d-pad input and are rather clunky.
