    Ps1 Klonoa: Original vs. Remake

I'm a fan of the Klonoa series overall and the first holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the first (but not the last) PlayStation games I really loved after PaRappa the Rapper. So when it was announced that the Wii remake was coming out, I was pretty flattered.

To cut things short, I have owned both the original and remake in physical form in the past, but for personal reasons sold both. Tonight however, I bought the US version on PSN for a mere $5.99 which is a bargain considering how expensive it is at auction.

If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the original. The Wii remake, as pretty as it was to look at, had nothing really going for it except the graphics! Giving you five hearts (which count as two hits each) versus the three in the original game, simply to make a game easier which was already easy enough to begin with, was a real slap in the face. Plus, the requirements of collecting all the jewels to complete the game 100% was removed in the remake for a much more inane Mirror Mode and Costume Changer. That is a shame, as it was probably the most challenging aspect of the original. And the original, folks, is a classic which I can still play and over.

I have both of them, but only completed the Wii version, so my view may be tainted. I really really enjoyed the Wii version, the game is fun to play and the characters are so memorable.

I'm a sucker for eye candy, and they really didn't change from the original style very much at all, the remake is a very good translation of the PS1 game IMHO. I will say, the waggle in the Wii can be a bit frustrating sometimes. There are are a couple required jump sequences that are just sooo difficult to get right, but thankfully that isn't the norm in the game.
