Mario Best console for platformers: current gen and last gen?

I'm wondering, as a huge fan of the genre, which is the current best console for platformers as well as this past gen?

I feel so far that for last gen, Wii mostly took the cake, as the genre was largely absent from Xbox360 and to a lesser extent from PS3.

Funny story: I once asked some guy who worked at GameStop what was the best system for platformers after he denied that it was the Wii. He asked me to name more than one and I named about 5+. Then he told me PS3 was because of LittleBigPlanet but aside from that, couldn't name any more.

yeah, platformers saw a resurgence last gen, so steam was a great place - although XBLA (Braid, save state type like Meat Boy etc) wasn't bad either. Rayman Origins looked great too.

overall though, Nintendo seems fascinated by the genre this gen - WU has a disproportionate amount of platformers, i think. like, i'm a fan of the genre but i'm not getting DKC tropical freeze till it drops in price, i still gotta beat 3D World & a few others.

Sony side...i'm just not a big fan of Ratchet & Clank; like, they're solid & enjoyable but i don't get into them anymore than i did early Jax & Daxter games. LBP (especially 2) has an amazing community with some really great fan-made levels but i can't get past the floaty physics personally, i hear the vita one addressed that.

You're going to find the MOST (quantitatively) games of ANY genre on the Wii/WiiU/NDS/3DS because Nintendo went whole-hog into shovelware after the GameCube. They learned that MOST gamers don't want good games, they want lots of different games released more quickly; i.e., they want shovelware. As long as you also toss in the occasional GOOD game to keep the critics happy, shovelware is the most PROFITABLE way to handle a game console. You and I may disagree, but we aren't 90% of the gamer base. We're the minority that prefers a good game.

Indeed. In a world where the "modern first person shooter" dominates the market, it's difficult to even find a good platformer on consoles now.
Keep in mind Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, they explicitly tell the "player" that they won't create the traditional 3d platforming because they "want to broaden the demographic".
Perfect example of an "unfunny" game with most of the jokes being aimed at its past games.
